On behalf of our client, Genstar we are recruiting for an Accounting Assistant that will provide a broad range of accounting support for the Winnipeg Region. Reporting to the Regional Controller, the Accounting Assistant is responsible for various accounts payable and accounts receivables duties, recording of financial transactions for the local region, and assisting with the annual audit process. As the Accounting Assistant you will:
- Prepare and send invoices, process deposits and apply payments.
- Follow up with customers regarding receivables.
- Obtain approval for invoices and ensure that expenditures are correctly coded.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly journal entries, accruals, GL closing, balance sheet reconciliations and other month/quarter/year end activities for all of the region’s entities.
- Support the preparation of Cash Flows and Cost Estimates.
- Maintain schedules for property taxes for all entities.
- Assist in the preparation of year-end audit information and documentation for external auditors.
- Prepare documentation with respect to sales; transfers, agreements, mortgages, and letters of credit.
- Provide administrative support and ad hoc duties as required.
You and Your Experience:
- 5+ years minimum of relevant accounting experience, ideally within the real estate/land development industry.
- Degree or Diploma in Accounting or Business Administration.
- Experience working with ERP systems, ideally with JD Edwards/Oracle.
- Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office Suite (SharePoint and OneDrive is an asset).
- Self-starter with exceptional time management and project management skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability producing quality materials within tight time frames.
- Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to assume a hands-on role, possessing ability to establish relationships quickly with all levels of staff.
- An understanding of tax regulations (GST) is considered an asset.
- You are a thoughtful and well-organized individual, able to manage multiple priorities.
- Minimal travel requirements (1 trip per year in Canada).
