Kelly Services has an Exciting Opportunity as an Agriculture Field Research Assistant, in Caledon, ON.
The Research Assistant will work as an integral part of a team out of Georgetown, ON that is committed to developing high yielding, disease resistant canola varieties. Within this position you will gain training and experience in controlled greenhouse and/or field projects by participating in activities that that will help you to develop valuable insights with different aspects of plant breeding and the seed business. Successful candidate should be a fast learner with a high aptitude for precision and accuracy. These positions will run 4-8 months in duration, starting March 2024.
Position Overview
- Seed package filling
- Applying seed treatment
- Field preparation, seeding, plot maintenance
- Placing row markers in field and removing discard plants
- Cage constructions and Field preparations
- Collecting leaf tissue in Greenhouse and/or Field
- Assisting with note collection
- Harvesting Greenhouse and/or Field plants
- Threshing (extracting seeds from pods)
- Grain Cleaning
- Greenhouse and/or field planting
- Plant care (staking, tying back, tidying up dropped leaves)
- Labelling, weighing and organization of seed packages (inventory)
- Crossing – CMS and Emasculating (possibly)
- Assist with Bee incubation and release (possibly)
- Limited driving of a company vehicle (possibly)
Pay: $20.00/HR
Schedule: Monday - Friday 8 am - 4pm
