Assistant Purchaser

The Assistant Purchaser is responsible for supporting our purchasing and logistics department with its daily functions. In this role, your responsibilities include maintaining positive vendor relationships, keeping system receipt of deliverables, packaging and staging outgoing goods, placing, and tracking purchase orders, managing stock, and offering recommendations for improved efficiencies.

The following is a list of duties relating to this position. These may be adjusted by your supervisor when required.

Key Responsibilities

• Follow all established policies, procedures, and best practices.
• Always be physically and mentally fit for work.
• Sign off on incoming materials, inspect shipments for order accuracy and material quality.
• Perform packing slip entries; Sort, package, and print shipping label; Distribute as prescribed.
• Schedule outgoing deliveries to meet end-users’ requirements.
• Communicate delivery status to end-users.
• Amend purchase order and address invoice discrepancies.
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure compliance with established processes.
• Review daily shipping log and process purchase orders accordingly.
• Assist senior buyers with gathering quotes.
• Write, submit, and expedite purchase orders as required.

Qualifications and Skills

• Minimum Education: Working towards a diploma or degree in Business Administration or a related field. Interest in obtaining the SCMP or CSCP designation is considered an asset.
• Minimum Experience: 1+ year background in related business setting, mining/construction industry.

• Ability to always represent the company in a professional manner.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines, exceptional and strong written and communication skills.
• Ability to work on multiple simultaneous projects with distinct closure dates.

• High computer literacy and comfort level with new systems and technology.
• Positive attitude with the ability to work collaboratively within a team.

A valid driver’s permit is required for this position. The work location is the main office in Val Caron, Ontario. The role requires an average of 32 hours of work per week with flexible hours.
