Job description

Sheridan is inviting applications for a visionary leader of SPARK, The Sheridan Centre for Academic Excellence. Reporting to the Vice Provost, Academic Excellence and Transformative Learning, the Associate Vice Provost (AVP), Academic Quality and Teaching Innovation provides leadership at both strategic and operational levels, balancing and aligning the vision, objectives and planning of the College with those of SPARK. A key priority of the role is the ongoing design, implementation, and oversight of quality academic supports and resources that galvanize education within the Sheridan teaching and learning environment.

The AVP is responsible for advancing excellence in teaching and learning, leading and operationalizing Scholarship of Teaching and Learning at Sheridan, and for development, delivery and ongoing quality review of innovative programs and initiatives within the portfolio. The AVP also has a collaborative role with other leaders/Deans to ensure the same across the College. This includes ensuring continuous improvement and evolution of a range of programs and services that meet the needs of the academic community - including diverse learners - and the managing of relevant resources.

The AVP is responsible for:
  • Ensuring compliance of standards, regulations and deliverables around quality assurance of program/curriculum development and review and is a consulting resource to other Faculties as such.
  • Supporting Faculty Deans and Associate Deans in faculty development and preparation.
  • Providing leadership and direction in support of e-learning/ digital technologies, faculty development, new program development, program modifications and program review.
The incumbent also develops and maintains partnerships with external constituencies (e.g. government agencies, professional societies, industry and other educational institutions) to continue to represent the interests, and build the profile of SPARK, Sheridan and its programs.

The AVP is a thought leader, and the incumbent fosters change as it relates to these areas - constantly developing ideas, scanning for new opportunities and best practices, and implementing new services, in response to academic and industry needs. In alignment with Sheridan's commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, and in recognition of Sheridan's robust international student population, the role will lead in the development of innovative teaching and learning resources and services to support a diverse community of learners.
