Job Description:
Read drawings and technical documents, extract information, as required.
Perform calculations for conductor sag and tension checks etc.
Make field observations and measurements as necessary.
Submit completed work for appropriate review and approval.
Assist the Supervisor in the administration of the QA programs by ensuring that all relevant QA procedures are adhered to.
Assist the Supervisor in the review of incoming documentation.
Work with QA on personnel during audits.
Perform field testing and as built measurements to verify construction activity meets design specification.
Field test concrete based on CSA A23 and monitor footing installations including rebar inspection.
Inspect, verify and document adherence to QC requirements. Interpret and evaluate results.
Assist Technicians/ Supervisor as requested in staking and or layout of lines and stations structures.
Perform topographic surveys to be submitted to supervisor for review.
Perform sagging, tension checks and precut calculations as requested with minimal supervision to be submitted to supervisor for review.
Perform condition inspection of wood poles and lattice structures with minimal supervision and send draft report to be reviewed by a senior technician.
In fibre optic installations, perform testing using an Optical Time Domain Reflectomitor (OTDR) independently, ensure that each fusion splice of installed fibre meets the Telecom specifications and attenuation as directed by supervisor.
Perform all tasks according to OHSA requirements, Hydro One policies, and Hydro One Safety Rules and procedures.
Conduct job planning including tailboards for all types of work.
Perform other duties as required.
Selection Criteria:
Requires a knowledge of the application of general drafting principles, to locate, review and relate details of materials in engineering drawings.
Requires a knowledge of mathematics as necessary in the calculation of daily job functions.
Requires a basic knowledge of physics and chemistry to understand the basic theories relating to the various systems and associated material requirements.
Requires a knowledge of basic data processing and various computer applications software packages Requires a knowledge of English to prepare reports, other documentation and to communicate effectively with others.
This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired in either a Grade XII education in a secondary school plus up to one year of further concentrated study in a relevant field, or the equivalent education.
Requires experience, such as may be obtained in lesser portions or from work associated with construction projects and interrelationship of the engineering and construction events.
Requires experience in construction material verification, surveying and/or layout and relevant computer software.
Requires experience to be familiar with the operating procedures, standard practices.
Requires experience to be familiar with the functions and responsibilities of the various groups on a project team.
A period of 3 years and up to four years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
