Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Automation Technician maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs automated manufacturing and packaging machines. The ideal candidate will have sound knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical concepts.
What can you expect to do:
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair automated manufacturing and packaging machines to ensure manufacturing systems operate at target capacities and efficiencies
- Provide technical support for instrumentation and controls systems such as sensors, safety circuits, load cells, relay logic, electro-pneumatic, and electro-mechanical
- Immediate response to attend to and resolve breakdowns or productions stoppages
- Physically operate production equipment when required
- Participate & contribute to the successful completion/commissioning of technical projects.
- Follow Good Production Practices (GPP) and standard operating procedures (SOPs) in a highly regulated environment
- Monitor and respond to alarms for environmental conditions.
- Develop, propose, and execute continuous improvement projects to improve throughput and/or reduce operating costs
- Must be able to work overnight shifts
- Must be able to work in a team and individually
- Ensuring all safety requirements and procedures are met and always maintained while working on or running equipment
- Other related tasks as assigned, and as operationally required
What we’re looking for:
- Diploma from a certified post-secondary 2-year Technician or 3-year Technologist program
- Work experience in a related industry
- Proven fault finding and troubleshooting skills in the automation environment
- Hands-on experience with electro-mechanical & electro-pneumatic equipment, sensors, small motors, instrumentation
- Solid knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical concepts
- Hands-on experience with hand and power tools, diagnostic and calibration tools
- Ability to read and interpret plans, sketches, detailed spec drawings, parts diagrams, and schematics
- Use of computerized maintenance management systems; Experience with Microsoft products including Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Strong communications skills with the ability to fluently speak, read, and write in the English language
- Strong interpersonal with ability to work collaboratively and work within cross-functional teams
