The County of Lambton is an urban-rural area in southwestern Ontario that is home to over 126,000 residents. Position Overview
The Capital Projects Assistant is responsible for assisting County Staff in the preparation of plans and specifications for Capital Projects at County facilities.
In addition, the individual will assist in construction supervision and aid in the maintenance of the County's Tangible Capital Assets Program.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in ensuring that all occupational health, safety, fire code, building code and other regulatory and statutory requirements are met in County facilities projects.
- Assist in preparing any necessary drawings using CAD and associated specifications incorporated into formal bid documents.
- Respond to contractors enquires and concerns regarding scope of work and general conditions.
- Liaise with appointed Architects, Engineers and other professional services contracted by the County for County facilities projects. Provide feedback related to County facilities project(s) status and troubleshoot issues that are impeding the progress of County facilities projects.
- Assist in the planning of future capital works, estimate costs, plan project phases, long-term development (ODA, life safety) related codes and guidelines.
- Provide inspection reports, research new products and new methods to apply to current situations.
- Liaise with other County of Lambton departments to complete assigned tasks.
- Must be able to travel to various facilities for purposes of employment.
General:
- Incumbents must keep up-to-date on all relevant legislation, collective bargaining agreements, County Policies and Procedures, etc. ensuring that these are implemented as prescribed
- Incumbents must possess the physical ability to meet the duties and responsibilities of the job description and/or the requirements identified within the position's Physical Demands Analysis

Qualifications
- Current enrollment in an Architecture, Engineering, or Construction program at a recognized University or College.
Experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications: Excel, Outlook, Work, Access, Power Point
- Experience with Computer Automated Drafting (CAD) software is an asset
A valid Ontario driver’s licence and use of a vehicle.
Summer Student positions with the County of Lambton may be dependent on funding and the funding criteria, which specifies that students must:
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age
- Registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and returning to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year
- Canadian citizens, permanent residents or have refugee protection status under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
- Will not have another full-time job
