HOURS: 37.5 hour per week in office. Additional hours per a rotating weekly schedule to be on-call to accommodate Saturday interments , and on on call for rotating evenings/ nights/ weekends for removals
EXPERIENCE: No previous cemetery or funeral home experience is necessary. WE WILL TRAIN. Must be personable and have previous customer service/sales experience and willing to advance personal education and licensing.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Due to the physical duties required of a funeral director assistant, candidates must be able to team lift heavy loads, as well as assist in carry caskets and or manipulating body stretchers up and down stairs, in and out of vehicles, lifting over objects, and across uneven terrain.

ABOUT US: Cataraqui Cemetery and Funeral Services, is located in Kingston Ontario and is operated by The Cataraqui Cemetery Company. We are an independent not for profit organization that has operated continuously since 1850. We hold operator licensing for FE1 funeral establishment, a cemetery, and a crematorium. Our staff are hands on with each client family to assist, consult and arrange our full and comprehensive range of supplies and services including cremation, funeral services, caskets, urns, cemetery plots, interment services; and monuments.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS: As a condition of employment, the incumbent must be obtain and hold in good standing an Ontario Cemetery and Crematorium Sales Representative license. Licensing is coordinated through the employer and issued by the Bereavement Authority of Ontario(BAO). The employer will pay for the incumbent’s Annual BAO licensing/training/ education requirements.
- Must have and maintain a valid Ontario G2 driver’s license; with a clean driver abstract;
- Must have and maintain a clean CPIC or vulnerable sector police background check;
- Have and maintain full and open scheduling availability to meet the needs of the bereavement sector;

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This job description is intended to provide a general overview of the position. It is not an exhaustive list of responsibilities or requirements.
- Meet with families to discuss and assist them in selecting cemetery and crematorium related products, services, and arrangements as well as provide guidance and support during the planning process;
- Consult and negotiate with client families, within the limitations of personal licensing, for the pre-need or pre-paid contract for future cemetery or crematorium supplies and services.
- Provide estimates for cemetery, crematorium related products and services;
- Negotiate contracts for cemetery and crematorium related products and services as well as collect payment from your client families;
- Coordinate with cemetery grounds department, crematorium department and administrative staff for the interment or cremation of remains;
- Attend and witness cemetery interments to ensure orderly conduct, safety of visitors and proper site/plot locations.
- Search cemetery and crematorium record and files for information about previous interments, cremations, plot activity and any pre-paid services/products;
- Assist and guide families with their selection, design and installation of monuments and markers;
- Follow up with clients on any questions or information requests;
- Uncover and/or follow up on potential leads for new client needs or existing client needs;
- Meet with families to discuss and or resolve inquiries about plot maintenance marker maintenance;
- Prepare and file all necessary documents, contract, and/or records;
- Attend to front desk/reception duties (receive greet qualify any walk-in clients, visitors, in coming calls, emails) as needed;
- General office maintenance (taking out trash, sweeping, mopping, cleaning, wiping down common areas);
- Assist our on staff funeral directors with the removal and/or transfer, of a body from a private home, a nursing/retirement home, a hospital, etc... to our facility;
- Assist, with in the limitations of personal licensing , with the preparation of the body for burial or cremation;
- Assist with the preparation and filing of death certificates, obituaries, other documents and permits;
- Assist with the transportation of the remains (casket or urn) to: a cemetery, a crematorium, or a church:
- Assist our on-staff funeral directors with the directing /attending/guiding and preparations for church or graveside services.
