Position Title: Child and Youth Worker

Classification: Anomalies

Hourly Rate: $19.87 – $23.95

Reporting to: Manager of Children and Youth Services

Type: Part Time, Permanent 10 months per year: Sept. 1 - June 30 annually

17.5 hours per week, 2:15-5:45 p.m. Monday through Friday

Benefits: Full Benefits, HOOPP Pension plan, health, dental, vision, LTD and life insurance, 4 weeks of vacation plus additional paid time off

Job Summary


The Child and Youth Worker will coordinate and facilitate community based Child and Youth programs. The Child and Youth Worker will provide educational services, support and advocacy, and participate in the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of age and culturally appropriate programs to help meet the needs of children, youth and their families using a capacity building and health promotion framework.


Job Specific Responsibilities

  • Direct service with children 6-12 years at an After School Program
  • Plans programs that enhance cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development
  • Implement, monitor, and evaluate community based programs, providing required stats to Child and Youth Community Developer and entering groups information into database
  • Provide updates and contact with parents when necessary
  • Monitor and maintain/purchase adequate supplies and equipment for programming
  • Create linkages with available community resources i.e. local schools, recreation centres
  • Ensure all program safety measures are being met
  • Works closely with and support program staff, volunteers, and student placements

Qualifications

  • Child and Youth Worker Diploma or Early Childhood Education
  • Must speak French
  • Minimum 2 years experience in Child and Youth work
  • Criminal Reference check for working with vulnerable populations
  • Current CPR level C, First Aid and Food Handlers Certification
  • Adequate energy level and ability to meet the physical demands of the job
  • Working knowledge and use of major computer programs
  • Strong knowledge of child development and behaviour guidance techniques
  • Effective at communicating and problem solving
  • Experience and flexibility working in diverse community-based programs with families facing multiple health risks and barriers
