About You / What We Are Looking For
The City of Coquitlam is seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented individual to join our Parks, Recreation, Culture, and Facilities department as a Clerk – Leisure & Parks Services. Reporting to the Cemetery Supervisor, this temporary position, based at the Robinson Memorial Park Cemetery, will focus on providing empathetic customer service to bereaved families and offering general administrative support to the department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide compassionate customer service to bereaved families in person, over the phone, and via email.
- Perform general administrative tasks, including ordering office supplies, filing, data entry, and maintaining records.
- Administer a petty cash fund and ensure accurate financial transactions.
- Respond to telephone and email inquiries promptly and professionally.
- Create and maintain a variety of manual and computerized files and reports.
- Undertake additional projects and assignments as required.
Qualifications
- Completion of grade 12 education is mandatory; supplementary office administration or commercial coursework is an asset.
- Exceptional communication and customer service skills, particularly in dealing with emotional and sensitive situations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite products, with experience in spreadsheets, scheduling software, and record-keeping software.
- Knowledge or experience in social work, counselling, or a related social sciences field is beneficial.
- Comfortable working under minimal supervision and capable of exercising independent judgment.
Availability:
Candidates must be available to work approximately three days per week, from Wednesday through Friday, providing Auxiliary coverage in the cemetery office.
Requirements:
- Completion of a police security clearance evaluation and vulnerable sector check (with no adverse reports).
- Possession of a BC Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
What We Offer:
CUPE: This CUPE position has an hourly rate of $29.48 - $34.63 (2024 rate) + 12% in lieu of benefits.
