Join Our Team as a Community Resource Worker

Temporary, 12-month term, Full-time, On-site

What You'll Be Doing:

The City of Medicine Hat Community Development Department has an exciting opportunity available! This is a professional, non-union position that provides support, education and development services at the individual, family and community levels toward enhancing the livability of residents across the lifespan. This position is part of the City of Medicine Hat Family and Community Supports Services (FCSS) program. The (FCSS) program promotes and enhances the well-being of Albertans, families and communities. FCSS programs are intended to help individuals adopt healthy lifestyles, improve their quality of life and build capacity to prevent and deal with crisis situations should they arise. This position will work with other City and government departments, community organizations, and the public.


Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Identifies community issues and initiates, coordinates or facilitates the services, programs and/or directs assistance that will best meet social and/or community needs.
  • Establishes, supports and facilitates forums and learning opportunities for the community to respond proactively to concerns/issues, to set future direction and to evaluate programs and services.
  • Works collaboratively with government and non-government community partners to develop and maintain partnerships that identify gaps in services that need to be addressed to improve community liveability.
  • Assists the Manager as required in serving on City committees, community boards or committees to help ensure the social needs of the community are being recognized and considered.
  • Contributes to and/or develops personal and community development activities, programs and projects, and facilitates such programs to promote and enhance individual and community vibrancy.
  • Provides or facilitates the access to resources and assistance to residents across the lifespan to address specific needs and/or to increase their awareness, understanding and capacity to access services.
  • Participates in emergency responses through the direction of the Emergency Social Services leads, to provide supports and direction to residents displaced or disrupted by emergencies/disasters.


What You Bring:

  • Practical knowledge and understanding of federal, provincial, and municipal legislation and/or policies relating to individuals across the lifespan.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate and work in a team setting with internal and community partners.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with community organizations and with individual residents across the lifespan.
  • Ability to work independently towards goals
  • Ability to respond quickly to changing ideas, priorities, responsibilities, expectations, trends, strategies and other processes.
  • Demonstrated excellent planning, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficient in the use of Microsoft and other current office software.
  • Ability to understand, apply and analyze outcomes measures relevant to project deliverables


Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Community Development, Gerontology, or a directly related field, from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience.
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience
  • This position is safety sensitive and requires satisfactory completion of a pre-employment drug test. *
