Additional Information: This is a temporary position for approximately 6 months (June, 2024).
We are currently looking for a Complex Accounting Specialist to support our Accounting team!

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Financial Reporting, you will be responsible for researching, reviewing and documenting Complex Accounting issues at the Credit Union and providing recommendations on signification transactions. The role involves diving into IFRS and other sources of accounting literature. You will create and maintain project timelines for accounting issue analysis, while ensuring streamlined communication to relevant stakeholders. You will support broader capacity requirements within the department, while staying abreast of IFRS developments.
This role works closely with team members preparing quarterly and annual financial statements for our regulators, on internal control testing, and other ad hoc requirements as they come up. You will also help the Senior Manager update technical accounting policies, position papers, and assess new and existing transactions.
More specifically, the scope of your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of IFRS and ensure standards are being appropriately applied
  • Researching upcoming changes to IFRS and regulatory or legislative changes
  • Creating project timelines for the completion of accounting analyses and ensure deadlines are followed and communicated
  • Evaluating financial reporting impact due to changes in adopting IFRS or announced regulatory changes
  • Documenting research through writing clear and easy-to-understand position papers or memos
Requirements
To qualify, you'll need at least the following:
  • 2 - 5 years relevant post designation accounting experience.
  • Experience in making supportable accounting recommendations and decisions in accordance with IFRS.
  • Management/leadership experience.
  • Experience in internal controls over financial reporting (ICOFR) and financial/regulatory reporting
  • A CPA designation, or relevant applied experience interpreting and applying accounting standards (IFRS) and experience in leading teams.
  • Thorough working knowledge of IFRS and has experience in researching and drafting of position papers/white papers and accounting memos.
