As Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing the financial accounting and tax compliance function for our portfolio of companies, including financial reporting and financial systems, processes, internal controls and team development.
Key Responsibilities:
Working with and reporting to the VP, Finance, you will assume responsibility over the financial administration, including running the month-end and year-end closing processes
Oversee and continuously improve financial processes, including invoicing, procurement and payroll
Responsible for reliable and accurate financial management reporting including fulfilling group reporting requirements
Identify and investigate monthly and quarterly variances to budget and forecast
Partner with the VP, Finance to lead the business units through planning, budgeting, and forecasting
Ownership of the treasury process, including cash forecasting
Coordinate the provision of information for the annual audit
Monitor the financial and administrative status of existing and new projects
Oversee ongoing tax remittance and filings (GST, PST, source deductions, etc.) and work with external accounting firm or consultant on annual filings (corporate tax, etc)
Ownership of the SR&ED and IRAP processes, and identification of other government grants as applicable
Improve operational effectiveness in consultation with operations management and business unit leaders
Identify and implement innovative solutions, through the use of technology, to improve the productivity, accuracy and better decision making
Participate in investor and acquisition due diligence
Act as the point of contact in the financial area for colleagues, external relations and suppliers
Tackle ad hoc financial matters, improvement projects and system implementations
Lead, manage and be a career mentor to the accounting team
Experience & Qualifications:
8+ years of accounting experience, including proven experience as a Director of Finance, Controller, or other similar accounting leadership positionCPA or other recognized Professional Accounting Designation
Past experience working in a dynamic, high-growth company, ideally SaaS, where adaptability is imperative
Experience implementing financial systems, and a proven record to build controlled processes and grow an accounting and operational team
Excellent knowledge of accounting and financial reporting (ASPE and IFRS)
Proficiency in tax compliance (ideally in both Canada and the US), including SRED
Confidence, and exceptional communication abilities
Wage range:
CAD $100,000 - 130,000/year, commensurate with experience.
