A day in the role of a Cook at Maple Court Retirement Residence.
As a Cook at Maple Court Retirement Residence, you will be given high expectations, as well as an expectation to continue personal growth and professional growth. In this position, you will be gifted with a rewarding experience every day in the form of being able to see the exact impact you place on our residents.
As a Cook, you will report directly to the Culinary Service Manager. The Cook is responsible for meal preparation of the home and other duties as assigned. This position will be casual, so candidates must be available to work evenings and weekends, as well as a variety of shifts. Schedules will be provided.
Essential Duties are the technical skills and knowledge that an employee requires in order to perform their role. Below is detailed information on required Essential Duties for your position:
- Preparation of high quality, nutritious meals according to the menu plan, and the requirements of the RHA,
- Plates all meals and ensures Resident food preferences are respected,
- Keeps the kitchen area and equipment clean,
- Maintains a safe working environment,
- assists in the FIFO process of food and supply products
- Works collaboratively with all Food Services and other departments associates associates,
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Certification in Food Preparation designation from accredited school, is preferred
- Minimum 5 years or related experience in retirement, hospital or hotel setting in volume food preparation,
- Knowledge of special and therapeutic diets,
- Familiar with weights and measurements, recipe conversion and portion control,
- Completion of Safe Food Handlers Certification course,
- Knowledge of Ontario Food Premises Regulation and Canada’s Food Guide,
- Ability to work within and promote a team environment,
- Must enjoy working with Residents,
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written,
- Must be able to read, write and understand English,
- Highly organized and able to work independently,
- Must have a clear vulnerable sector screen, no older than 6 months, TB test results less than 6 months old, must be able to provide three supervisory references.
