Reports to: Accounting Manager
Status: Full-time
Purpose:
Reporting to the Accounting Manager, this position will be an integral part of our finance team. The Corporate Accountant will be responsible for the posting of monthly journal entries, assist in the timely completion of month end and year end, account analyses/reconciliations and frequently communicating with other departments and plants to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial transactions. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in accounting principles, attention to detail and the ability to work collaboratively with other departments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the preparation of monthly financial statements and support forecasting and budgeting.
- Prepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and follow-up on issues.
- Prepare subledger and general ledger reconciliations for accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank and fixed assets.
- Communicate with Corporate Departments and provide corporate expense analysis and process any required accruals.
- Prepare and post journal entries for month-end closing as required.
- Complete monthly reconciliations and analyses for inter-company transactions and transfers.
- Complete HST/QST reconciliations and tax remittances.
- Assist with preparation of year-end audit working papers.
- Liaise with all departments for the purpose of obtaining information in order to complete monthly tasks.
- Suggest and carry out changes where required to improve efficiencies
- Prepare Statistics Canada Reports in a timely manner.
- Other ad hoc duties as assigned by Management.
- Minimum 3 years experience in a similar role
- College or university degree/diploma in Accounting-enrollment in the CPA program (3rd level)
- Strong attention to detail, organization and analytical skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines and communicate issues in a timely manner
- Ability to take initiative in solving problems
- Ability to prioritize and organize work
- Hands on experience with account analysis
- Excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience working with an ERP system such as Microsoft Dynamics is an asset.
- A general knowledge in bank reconciliations and fixed assets accounting is preferred.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
