Job description

Job Summary

This position Works to support all areas of communications as required for the planning, development and implementation of high quality, internal and external communications programs in support of the organization's strategic goals and priorities. The Corporate Communications Assistant will also provide support and back up coverage for the Corporate Communications Officer to ensure a seamless flow of information to stakeholders.


Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree or Diploma in communications, journalism or public affairs.
  • Three to Five (3-5) years’ experience in communications roles, preferable in healthcare or not for profit organizations.
  • Knowledge of provincial governments, and Ministries of Health and Long-Term Care, is an asset.
  • Experience working with Creative Media is an asset (i.e. Video, photography, InDesign, Canva, Photoshop.)
  • Excellent editing & video editing skills.
  • Previous use of LinkedIn, Facebook and other social media platforms.
  • Previous use of a content Management System (CMS).
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Teams and Survey Monkey as asset.

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated writing skills for a variety of communications tools and tactics, including news releases, social media platforms, editorials, patient/staff stories, publications, marketing materials, and websites.
  • Media monitoring and tracking.
  • Strong conceptual skills; systems thinking and ability to deal with ambiguity.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills, including excellent telephone etiquette and ability to share important information to the team, our patients, and community support partners in an accurate manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and willingness to be flexible to meet department needs.
  • Ability to interpret, translate, and distill research from primary sources into compelling, engaging, and enlightening communications.
  • Exceptional editing and oral communication skills, and proficiency communicating and engaging effectively with a variety of audiences.
  • Excellent organizational, time, and project management skills to plan projects, achieve results and meet critical timelines in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Ability to make decisions, exercise judgement and take initiative in dealing with confidential information and/or responding to inquiries.
  • Demonstrated commitment to, and understanding of principles of equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the role.
  • Commitment to providing an exceptional experience for patients, family and staff.
  • Demonstrated appreciation and respect for protocol, professionalism and confidentiality.

Hours of Work: In order to provide the necessary patient care, our operations run 24/7. This role will be scheduled to work weekdays, however, some weekends and after hours may be required as per operational demands.

This role will be a hybrid model working both onsite, and some work from home.

Other: All job offers will require compliance with our COVID-19 Vaccination Policy for proof of full vaccination (two doses) unless provided with a medical exemption or an accomodation under the Ontario Human Rights Code.
