EIPS is recruiting a full-time Counsellor at Ardrossan Junior Senior High.
Ardrossan Junior Senior High serves approximately 830 students in grades 7 to 12, with 40 teaching staff and 10 support staff. The school is located in Ardrossan, AB, approximately 10 minutes east of Sherwood Park, AB.
The mission of Ardrossan Junior Senior High is to achieve educational excellence in preparing students for their future. As a combined junior-senior high school, staff and administration get to know students very well during their years at Ardrossan. There’s a strong sense of ''family'' at the school. Ardrossan Junior Senior High is a dual-track school offering both an English program and a French Immersion program.

Open to internal and external applicants, priority will be given to EIPS teachers who hold a continuous contract and meet the minimum requirements of the position
A master's degree in counselling and registered or provisional psychologist status is preferred. Consideration will be given to applicants presently working on a master's in this area. A m inimum of five years of teaching experience, education in psychology or a related discipline with a focus on counselling, and Violent Threat Risk Assessment Training (VTRA) would be considered an asset.
Responsibilities:
Guide the development and implement a comprehensive school counselling program that focuses on and promotes students’ success.
Value and respond to the diversity and individual differences of students.
Ensure equitable access to opportunities and a rigorous curriculum for all students.
Provide direct support services to help students develop and improve their skill set.
Collaborate and consult with parents, teachers, community organizations and other stakeholders.
Work with families to provide information about other support services and mental health services as needed.
Work with staff on the development of Instructional Program Plans and Positive Behaviour Support Plans.
Work with teachers to support the overall development of the students, academically, socially and emotionally.
Work with students, teachers, families with career planning after high school.
Requirements:
Proven working experience in school counselling.
Integrity and professionalism.
Advocacy skills.
Ability to respond effectively to the needs of a diverse student population.
Working knowledge of various counselling models, practices, and resources.
Engaging interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills.
Sound judgement and emotional intelligence.
Excellent listening and problem-solving skills.
Be experienced working within school systems as a teacher.
Possess a valid and current Alberta Teaching Certificate.
A master’s degree with a major in school counseling and or educational psychology is considered an asset.
