Summary of Position
The mandate of a School Counsellor is to assist and guide students, staff and families to build capacity for working through personal, social or psychological problems and difficulties. This can occur preventatively, (e.g., capacity building, psychoeducational) or remedially (e.g., one-to-one counselling, group counselling).
Accountabilities
Provide responsive services, (behavioural supports, crisis management, individualized student supports) to build capacity in students
Collaborate with support systems (school team, families and community agencies) to support the personal, social, emotional and academic development of students
Increase the social and behavioural competencies of students
Help students achieve academic, psychological and social health
