JOB DESCRIPTION:

A department Head is responsible for leading a specific Department in our store. This includes monitoring inventory levels, ensuring customer satisfaction, and achieving sales targets. Responsibilities include using retail software, ticketing, and replenishing merchandise, restocking, and staying on top of current trends in the industry. The successful candidate will have strong leadership skills, excellent customer service abilities, willingness to learn about products in their department.

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Oversee the Plumbing/Heating Retail Locations.
• Ensure customers are greeted entering the store or your department.
• Answer phones and respond to customer requests as required.
• Determine customer’s needs by asking open-ended questions.
• Be aware of and able to respond to safety issues.
• Communicate product knowledge to the customer as appropriate.
• Assist customers with finding all items needed to complete their project.
• Assist customers with carrying out large or heavy items.
• Change prices on merchandise, bins, displays, etc. as necessary.
• Cutting pipe, chain, making keys, etc. and always take appropriate safety precautions and make an effort to minimize waste.
• Keep areas neat, clean and orderly.
• Participate in regular cycle counting and ensure your assigned retail locations.
• Follow and maintain standards according to store expectations in the following areas: loss prevention, receiving and pricing goods, merchandise handling and presentation, housekeeping, reordering merchandise, store cleanliness, and restocking shelves.
• Attend store meetings, training sessions, etc. as required.
• Make suggestions for rule or policy changes when such changes would improve sales, profits, efficiency and/or operations in general.
• Assist in supervising and instructing student sales associates on projects assigned by management.
• Maintain departmental inventory at desired levels for maximum turnover and profitability.
• Display merchandise sold in the assigned department in a timely manner.
• Place orders for merchandise in assigned department(s), following procedures that conform to store policy.
• Assist customers in locating merchandising in store, on homehardware.ca as well as processing special orders.
• Suggest new product, merchandise lines, services and/or cost containment measures to management.
• Review discontinued item reports and previous sales history of these items to see if discounting and clearing of the item is appropriate or if a replacement item is necessary.
• Restock merchandise displays.
• Create attractive in-store displays.
• Recommend items and services within the department to be advertised and promoted.
• Create promotions to build traffic.
• Keep losses through error and/or theft to a minimum.
• Adjust inventory levels in assigned department(s) to conform to sales promotions, and seasonal peaks and valleys in the demand for merchandise.
• Check inventory at beginning and end of sales and/or promotions.
• Resolve customer claims and/or complaints in a way consistent with the store's expectations.
• Process special orders for non-stock items.
• Place orders for Plumbing/Heating/Electrical merchandise.
• Make periodic reports on sales, stock levels, etc. to the store manager, inventory manager or assistant manager.
• Assist customers in other departments as necessary.
• Repair/build screens as necessary.
• Additional duties and assignments as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School graduation or equivalent.
• 1 - 2 years of retail experience is an asset.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
• Ability to teach.
• Ability to work cooperatively in a team atmosphere.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Excellent mathematical skills.
• Good understanding of Home Hardware’s policies and procedures.
• Computer skills are an asset.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

• Reports directly to Store Manager or Assistant Manager

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: From $17.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
