About the role
As a Director for the Northern Alberta Region in the Underwriting Department, your work will have a big impact on the engagement, profitability, growth, and productivity. You will be responsible for short term and long term objectives surrounding the growth, profitability, productivity and engagement. The ideal candidate will be strategically minded, possess strong leadership skills, be innovative and agile and possess extensive insurance knowledge. You must have a proven track record of coaching and mentoring high performing teams with the ability to influence and help drive and shape the business for the next phase of growth by evaluating, analyzing and making good business decisions. You will work closely and report directly to the Vice President of Commercial Lines. This is a hybrid position requiring a minimum of 4 days in the Edmonton office.
Here are a few ways you'll make a difference:
Develop methods to inspire and build a highly effective and engaged Underwriting department capable of meeting current and future needs through effective leadership.
Lead, manage, and develop a team of managers by providing ongoing coaching, guidance, and performance feedback and facilitating continuous development and succession planning, actively participate in talent management discussions.
Build productive and profitable relationships with brokers and effectively communicate the strategic direction of Intact and the Northern Alberta region
Drive and achieve profitability, growth, productivity and operational goals through the strategic planning process and development and execution of the annual strategic plan, including specific underwriting, pricing, service, expense plans and support various projects.
Be accountable for the overall staffing and leadership of the underwriting teams by determining staffing numbers and levels based on established regional management and corporate guidelines; including managing department budgets
Be responsible for providing overall communication of and motivating staff to participate in goals, priorities, and new directions
Collaborate with the various regional and divisional management teams, underwriting managers, corporate underwriting, and claims management on technical and administrative issues
The requirements.
Demonstrated leadership skills with a minimum 3 years of recent management experience
Commercial Lines, Commercial Auto, Personal Lines, Claims or Specialty Lines experience is a strong asset
Proven track record of demonstrating our Leadership Success Factors
Strong ability to lead an engaged team and build relationships based on trust and collaboration with various groups
Influence business relationships to achieve business goals
Mastery of strategic planning and excellent communicator
Ability to organize, priority management, capacity for analysis and synthesis, tact, diplomacy and pressure resistance
Project management skills and change management experience
Demonstrated strong follow-up and execution on work and projects
Some travel required
