Reporting to the Senior Director, Labour and Employee Relations, the incumbent acts as a key member of the LR team and the HR leadership team. Under the direction of the Senior Director, Labour Relations this position is responsible for the strategic and tactical execution of the annual Employee and Labour Relations strategy and operational plan.
This position will be located at our Head Office in Markham, Ontario and will have flexibility for both remote and in-office work based on our hybrid work model
Primary Responsibilities-
Lead the Employee and Labour Relations functions which includes:
- Participate in the development of the Extendicare enterprise wide LR/ER strategic and tactical plan, as well as contributing, along with all members of the HR leadership team, the formulation of HR’s operational and strategic goals and objectives.
- Operationalize the LR strategic plan
- Act as Extendicare's spokesperson in the negotiation of Collective Agreements; negotiate and draft settlement agreements, implement, interpret and administer Collective Agreements.
- Ensure Execution of LR/ER COE, including training, coaching, development and partner with Human Resources Business Partners
- Create a more team based and integrated approach to Labour and Employee Relations
- Work with appropriate stakeholders with respect to grievance, complaints and conflict resolutions and represent Extendicare at arbitration/board hearings when necessary
- Advise and assist managers at all levels to advance and meet Extendicare's goals of establishing practices and policies for consistent and sound employee relations.
- Provide guidance and advice on issues respecting human resources and employee relations management, collective agreements (negotiation, information, interpretation, application), performance matters, workplace investigations, grievances, complaints and arbitration issues, organizational change, labour relations-related legislation and regulations, etc.
- Oversee, manage, lead, coach, guide and mentor LR/ER staff.
- Responsible for creating, implementing and continually managing LR/ER/HR KPI’s
- Ensure appropriate development of HR/LR and Line management employee and labour relations skills through the planning, development and implementation of training seminars and information sessions
- All other duties and tasks as assigned from time-to-time.
- Minimum 5+ years of Labour Relations experience in a unionized environment, with an emphasis on significant multi-site collective agreement locations.
- Demonstrated knowledge/experience of leading collective agreement negotiations.
- Demonstrated ability to provide advice and counsel to business while using ability to influence.
- Broad knowledge of employment legislation: Labour Relations Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Human Rights Code, Employment Standards Act, etc.
- University Degree or completion of a College Diploma Program in Human Resources or related discipline. Human Resources Leader (CHRL) desirable.
- Strong business acumen and labour analytics experience required.
- Some intermittent provincial travel may be required.
