The Director - LTO Finance Technology will lead the Finance technology team under Ambition 2025 to drive simplification, digitization for Finance. The role also requires the ability to partner with Finance, Enterprise Architecture, Data & Analytics (DNA) to build scalable and resilient solutions.

Responsibilities:

As the Director of Finance Technology, you will have end to end accountability for the successful delivery and support of all the applications and systems supporting Finance. Key to your success in this role is partnering with broader internal and external stakeholders requiring exceptional communication and negotiation skills.

  • Builds solutions that are supportable, scalable and achieve our aspiration of common assets.
  • Recommends or automates approaches to streamline and integrate technological processes and/or systems to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Supports the management of specific project deliverables & outcomes.
  • Evaluates new technologies for fit with the program/system/eco-system and the associated upstream and downstream impacts on process, data, risk (e.g., security). Works toward the objective of defect free software. Ensures that systems functionally meet requirements, align with architecture, and promote the development of common assets. Supports the resolution of production issues and problems. Makes recommendations to improve BMO processes & systems.
  • Acts as a trusted advisor to senior leaders for making business decisions and implementing strategic initiatives.
  • Builds interdependent teams that collaborate across functional and operating groups to create the highest value for all stakeholders.
  • Attracts, retains, and enables the career development of top talent.
  • Improves team performance, recognizes and rewards performance, coaches employees, supports their development, and manages poor performance.
  • Develops an expert understanding of business/group challenges.
  • Has expert knowledge to influence and set corporate direction for software development practice, concepts, technology and methodology.
  • Manages resources and leads the execution of strategic initiatives to deliver on business and financial goals.
  • Acts as the prime contact for internal/external stakeholder relationships, which may include regulators.
  • Monitors and tracks performance and addresses any issues.
  • Leads workshops to develop solutions from a program perspective in association with all interdependent systems.
  • Decomposes business requirements and translates them into detailed design specifications and code.
  • Interacts with key business & technology stakeholders to define, analyze, and deliver requirements that reflect the needs of both the business and end-customers.
  • Assesses the costs and benefits for different solutions and recommend/decide on appropriate designs.
  • Supports production issues, includes independently completing root-cause analysis and diagnosis.
  • Identifies opportunities to strengthen the development capability, such as: sharing expertise to promote technical development, mentoring employees, building communities of practice and networks.
  • Operates at a group/enterprise-wide level and serves as a senior specialist resource across BMO.
  • Influences how teams/groups work together.
  • Applies expertise and thinks creatively to address unique or ambiguous situations and to find solutions to multiple, interdependent, complex problems.
  • Communicates abstract concepts in simple terms.
  • Fosters strong internal and external networks and works with and across multiple teams to achieve business objectives.
  • Anticipates trends and responds by implementing appropriate changes.
  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of work experience in technology (managing large technology platforms of large scale and complexity)
  • In-depth knowledge of Software Development Life Cycles, Agile delivery
  • 7+ years experience managing people at Senior Manager & Director level
  • Possesses a deep understanding and problem-solving ability of various complexities
  • Financial Industry background preferred
  • Experience with regulatory reporting and taxation systems nice to have
  • Knowledge of software development practices, concepts, and technology obtained through formal training and/or work experience
  • Knowledge of technical/business environment and processes
  • Understand functional aspects and technical behavior of the underlying operating system, development environment, and deployment practices
