Located at the south end of the Sunshine Coast, the Town of Gibsons resides on the unceded territory of the Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation). Gibsons is a scenic town of artists, entrepreneurs, and fishing boats. Perched on a hillside, it overlooks a harbour and faces nearby islands in Howe Sound. The “Gateway to the Sunshine Coast” is 16 km from Vancouver, accessed by a scenic 40-minute ferry trip from West Vancouver through beautiful Howe Sound.
The Town of Gibsons was the first in Canada to pioneer a municipal asset management approach that includes both engineered and natural assets and has been recognized as the 2018 Land Use and Conservation winner for the Municipal Natural Assets Initiative. They are nationally and internationally recognized as progressive leaders in the natural asset management approach.
The Town of Gibsons is governed by an elected Council comprised of a Mayor and four Councilors. Councilors are elected for four-year terms, and each member represents the Town at large.
ABOUT THE ROLEReporting to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), and leading a team of talented and dedicated professionals, the Director of Finance is appointed by Council and as an Officer of the Municipality, is assigned the responsibility of Financial Officer. In addition to providing professional advice on all financial matters, this position is also responsible for providing advice and guidance on matters involving risk management and has general oversight of the human resources function.
The successful candidate will have an undergraduate degree in accounting, business or commerce, and a Professional Accounting Designation (CPA). The Director of Finance will have a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in a senior financial position with a minimum of five (5) years experience in public administration or local government. An Advanced Certificate in Local Government or Public Administration is considered an asset. The role requires excellent oral and written communication skills, problem-solving and analytical abilities, a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, strong leadership, and excellent interpersonal skills. A satisfactory combination of education and experience may be considered. The ability to achieve satisfactory results from a current RCMP criminal records check is a condition of employment. This role will require flexible hours to attend council meetings and public hearings on a regular basis.
The salary range for this position is $125,000 – 145,000 supplemented by a competitive total compensation and benefits package including participation in the Municipal Pension Plan and an Annual Health and Wellness Subsidy.
