The Fleet Coordinator (commonly known as a dispatcher) is responsible for the overall productivity and performance of their assigned drivers and tractors. They will accomplish this through ongoing review of key performance indicators, followed by active participation in strategies to positively affect results. They are expected to provide support to the sales and operations team on a daily basis. Must be well organized, an excellent communicator and have a keen sense of timeliness in prioritizing personal and fleet activities.
1) Tractor Utilization:
The primary responsibility of the Fleet Coordinator is to ensure that their assigned fleet of tractors is utilized in the best interests of the company. In its basic form, this responsibility means maximizing the number of days per month that tractors are productive.
2) Driver Productivity:
The Fleet Coordinator must ensure that their assigned drivers are meeting productivity targets. These goals will be achieved through Driver days of work contribution, as well as effective planning and dispatching by Operations.
3) Other Driver Performance:
This involves the ongoing management of Driver performance outside of mileage and days of work, with a focus on company policy and procedures.
4) Driver Retention:
Driver retention involves working on behalf of both the Driver and the company to resolve any day to day or long-term issues in order to positively affect Driver retention statistics.
5) Reporting:
Reporting involves the consistent and thorough completion of Fleet Reports – as assigned by the Manager.
6) Dispatch:
Dispatch involves the responsibility of ensuring that all daily dispatch activities are carried out in a timely manner.
7) Other Tasks:
These involve any other duties that may be assigned from time to time, on a daily or permanent basis. These may include things such as:
- Manage all Driver expiration documents (ex: Licenses, Passports, FAST, TWIC, Maintenance reports, etc.)
- Special projects.
- Training seminars.
- Providing and participating in additional programs.
- Any other job-related tasks.
Required skills, abilities and qualifications:
- Previous dispatch experience
- Experience in an open deck transportation company preferred
- Freight lanes and trends
- Trucking Rules and Regulations
- Geography of North America
- High level of Customer Service

- Initiative
- Basic to moderate MS Office suite experience
