Job description

The Elevator

We are looking for a Grain Elevator Operator/Farm Hand to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of Grain Elevators, including loading and unloading grain, monitoring grain quality, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The ideal candidate should have experience operating Grain Elevators and a strong understanding of grain storage and handling techniques. We are looking for an independent self-starter, highly motivated individual who is proactive and can take the initiative when needed.

The Elevator operations work will consist of half of your daily working time.

Responsibilities include and are not limited to:

· Operate and maintain Grain Elevator equipment.

· Monitor and adjust the speed of conveyor belts and other machinery.

· Inspect and test Grain Elevators for safety and efficiency.

· Perform regular maintenance on Grain Elevators.

  • Must be comfortable working at heights and tight spaces

· Maintaining accurate records of Grain Elevator operations using Microsoft Excel.

· Ensure all safety regulations are followed.

· Perform other related tasks as assigned.

The Dairy Farm

Van Engelen Dairy Farms Ltd (“VEDF”), is a family run Dairy located directly beside Van Engelen Elevators. This Dual Role will be best suited for individuals who like the change in tasks daily and are flexible with the weather (working in inclement weather). We have a diverse team at VEDF that provide quality care and tend to the dairy cattle daily.

Responsibilities:

· Perform routine maintenance and repairs on farm machinery and equipment under the supervision of Lead Mechanic in barns and shop.

· Perform barn tasks under the direction of Management.

· Assist with heavy lifting as required up to 25 kg

· Operate heavy equipment as needed. Skid steers, wheel loader, tractors.

· Use hand tools to complete various maintenance tasks.

· Provide support to other department members maintaining a sense of collaboration and teamwork.

· Provide positive feedback to others, when possible, coach others for success.

· Recommend opportunities for improvement of processes and systems as a result of the function performed or based on observations.

· Must contribute to a safe, clean and comfortable work environment that complements the Occupational Health and Safety Act Regulations

· Provide dairy cattle with care. Completing daily checks to ensure the cattle are comfortable.

· Prepare barns by applying proper bedding sand to stalls, straw to pack pen.

· Prepare alleys, scraping and cleaning.

· Follow farm protocols and programs (workplace safety, security, animal welfare, food safety, on-farm biosecurity)

· Safely use Farm Equipment and assist with sanitation of equipment.

  • Support the field team during planting and harvest season, operate a field crop sprayer in the growing season, able to be flexible with weather and harvest.
  • Operate different types of equipment for planting, harvest, and manure. Case field sprayer, manure tanker.

· The successful candidate will gain experience with a variety of cutting-edge technologies found in the agriculture industry.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $20.00-$27.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 – 55 per week
