Arcadis IBI Group is seeking an Intermediate Ecologist with a background in vegetation to help build the southern Ontario Natural Systems Team. Through this role the successful candidate will have the opportunity work in a supportive and driven team that delivers strategic solutions for clients.

Our Natural Systems Team supports the Arcadis IBI Group vision to plan, design, build, and sustain the cities of tomorrow. By taking a systems-based approach, we support our clients with solutions that promote the responsible development of our communities. We effectively balance the need for functional natural heritage systems with the demand for new and improved communities. We achieve this through innovative and collaborative multidiscipline project teams.

The Natural Systems Team is not a service provider, but a true partner in the planning and design of our communities.

Most Of The Things You'll Work On:
  • Follow and promote a health and safety culture within the team
  • Commit to personal development and ongoing learning in the field of Ecology - we are committed to advancing our people and our company
  • Undertake biophysical surveys following the standardized field methodologies used in Ontario (e.g., ecological land classification, floristic inventory, significant wildlife habitat determination, tree inventory and health assessment, breeding bird survey, reptile and amphibian survey including anuran call survey, Species at Risk surveys (general and targeted), fish habitat mapping and assessment (OSAP or MTO protocol), fish collection and species identification, headwater drainage feature assessment, etc.) - depending on area of expertise
  • Support the collection and management of the digital data
  • Contribute to technical reports that meet industry standards and the needs of clients and partners (e.g., Environmental Impact Study, Existing Conditions Report, Impact Assessment Report, Tree Conservation Report, Arborist Report, Preliminary Screening for Species at Risk, and reports required for environmental agency permits and approvals)
  • Support permitting and approvals related to natural heritage at the local, provincial, and federal level. (e.g., tree removal, Endangered Species Act, Conservation Authorities Act, Fisheries Act, etc.)
Qualifications

You'll Need To Have:
  • A university degree in biology, ecology, environmental studies, or related discipline
  • Minimum 3 years of related work experience (experience in the consulting environment is preferred)
  • Valid Ontario Driver's License
  • Ontario-based experience and/or certification in Ecological Land Classification
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Must have or be able to obtain First Aid and CPR certification
  • Strong writing, organizational, and time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and undertake fieldwork under a variety of conditions
  • Willingness to travel across Ontario
  • Time management skills, with the ability to meet project deadlines while working on multiple tasks/projects concurrently
Beneficial experience, skills, and qualifications include:
  • Previous consulting experience
  • Experience in client liaison and business development
  • Ontario-based certifications or training in standardized field methodologies (e.g. Butternut Health Assessment, Ontario Wetland Evaluation System, ISA arborist, MTO/DFO/OMNR Fisheries Protocol, Class II Electrofishing, etc.)
  • Ontario-based certifications or training in Environmental Monitoring for Construction Projects
  • Experience in the application of natural heritage surveys to support municipal, provincial, and/or federal approvals in the land development, transportation infrastructure, and/or municipal planning sectors
  • Experience with ArcGIS and Mobile Data Collection tools
  • Detail oriented with excellent data capture and recording skills
  • Contributions to Citizen Scientist Projects
  • Positive attitude, self-motivated with strong initiative
