DIVISION OVERVIEW
The Procurement and Supply Division (PSD) within the Ministry of Citizens' Services (CITZ) partners with ministries and the broader public sector to provide expert advice and strategic planning for the best value acquisition, supply and disposal of goods and services. PSD is responsible for modernizing procurement in the Province of British Columbia while making it easier to do business with government. With a diverse team of more than 450 employees in offices and warehouses across eight B.C. cities, PSD strives to ensure partners find best value solutions, goods and services to meet their distinct needs.
BRANCH OVERVIEW
The King's Printer has approximately 50 employees fulfilling a diverse range of services to ministries, broader public sector, and citizens. The team is highly customer focused and supports a variety of lines of business including but not limited to the printing and digital publishing of provincial legislation and other government related documents; integrates, maintains, and enhances business and data systems on a hybrid, on-premises and cloud infrastructure; print brokering services, a multi-channel contact service department and provides access to provincially sources protocol and giftware.
JOB OVERVIEW
King's Printer is seeking a permanent Digital Publishing Specialist & XML Editor to join our team.
The King's Printer Digital Publishing team publishes all provincial legislation, including BC Building Codes, Vancouver Building and Plumbing Codes; and provides desktop and electronic publishing services to ministries, public sector organizations and government organizations outside of BC.
Reporting to the Supervisor, the Digital Compositor is responsible for preparing provincial and municipal legislation, provincial Codes, provincial Budget and other provincially legislated documents for both print and digital publishing purposes.
The position requires a broad comprehension of the legislative processes and industry terminology. Requirements include the ability to manage multiple accountabilities in a fast-paced environment with rapidly changing priorities. The work is extremely precise and detail oriented, with historical accountability in mind as the published material is relied upon by the legal profession, public and private sector organizations and the general public.
The position requires comprehensive use of a variety of software programs including InDesign, Acrobat, FrameMaker, Oxygen (XML editor), Dreamweaver (HTML editor), BeyondCompare, MS Office (Word, Excel, Access), JIRA, Sharepoint, FTP, and other custom department-created applications, such as Civix Suite.
This permanent full-time position will focus on amending online British Columbia Statutes, Regulations as well as other legislated documents while maintaining accuracy and quality assurance
Job Requirements:
  • One (1) year of experience within the last three (3) years processing materials for websites or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
  • One (1) year of experience within the last three (3) years in web editing including HTML and XML which may include using editing tools such as Dreamweaver and Oxygen.
  • Experience using InDesign, Acrobat, Dreamweaver, Oxygen, FrameMaker, MS Office, FTP and SharePoint.

PREFERENCES
  • Preference may be given to candidates with experience in PitStop, Beyond Compare, Photoshop, JIRA, CSS, XSLT and XSD.

PROVISOS
  • The successful candidate is required to join the Unifor Union of Canada, if not already a member. Candidate preference will be given to a qualified Unifor member.
  • Shift work and/or overtime may be required when the Legislature is in Session or during peak periods.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
The position headquarters will Victoria.
