JOB TITLE: Electrical Engineer

DIVISION: Commercial Power

LOCATION OF WORK: Ottawa, Canada

TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS: Minimal travel (<10%)

DESCRIPTION:

Ultra Safe Nuclear Corporation (USNC) is seeking outstanding talent to join its dynamic team to develop clean energy and space nuclear propulsion in Ottawa, Canada. The Electrical Engineer is responsible for process improvement, process control and efficient operation of these systems, ensuring that health and safety, and adhering to quality assurance procedures. A portion of this work involves operation inside a radiological space and handling of uranium-bearing materials.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Be cognizant of nuclear safety importance.
  • Support the configuration management process (new documents creation, existing documents life cycle tracking).
  • Create and maintain instrumentation and cable lists in support of detailed design.
  • Ensure appropriate design documentation will be produced for all I&C equipment (as per the applicable internal procedures).
  • Create and maintain progress reports.
  • Assist in ensuring relevant tasks are following and meeting the current C&I and project schedule.
  • Support OPEX (Operating Experience) research and document relevant findings – discuss results with the senior design team.
  • Assist in providing responses in technical enquiries.
  • Support in reviewing and accepting vendor documentation (documentation registration, incorporation of USNC comments, etc.).
  • Interact with various engineering disciplines and support design, qualification and purchasing activities.
  • Perform work in accordance with internal USNC management procedures and policies.
  • Input to P&IDs and taking part in HAZOPs
  • Assist with prototype and qualification testing of C&I system and components.
  • Support the MMR Unit team in reviews, audits and assessments.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in I&C or Electrical Engineering, Master's degree beneficial.
  • 3-5 years' experience in design engineering environment.
  • Strong commitment to nuclear safety principles.
  • Experience in working in a project environment - budget, schedule, reporting.
PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCES:
  • Basic knowledge of nuclear systems, controls and materials for reactor applications.
  • Skilled in basic process control design and design principles.
  • Understanding of nuclear regulatory requirements with particular focus on systems important to safety would be beneficial.
  • Good understanding and experience in system engineering methodologies.
  • Must have working knowledge or be familiar with SharePoint, Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must be able to work in a dynamic team environment.
  • C&I simulation experience.
  • Knowledgeable in programmable electronic systems (PES) including PLC, SCADA, DCS, MIS & LIMS, including the preparation of Control Philosophy and User Requirement Specifications
  • Have advanced planning and time management skills.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written skills to effectively communicate with others.
  • Be proficient in technical report writing and presentation.
  • Have a strong orientation toward internal and external customers.
