Role description:

The Environmental Field Technician will be focused on execution of field operations with a focus on safety, efficiency and compliance with procedures and will be reporting to the Project Manager. The successful applicant will work independently as well with contractors primarily at vacant downstream oil & gas properties throughout Canada.

Arcadis has a strong collaborative culture so this will be an opportunity for you to use, learn and apply foundational skills in the environmental assessment field.

Role accountabilities:

The responsibilities for this position will include but are not limited to the following:
  • Carrying out fieldwork (site visits, groundwater monitoring and sampling, soil sampling through drilling, test pitting, and excavations).
  • Supervision of drillers and other contractors during field work activities.
  • Operation of various types of field monitoring equipment (e.g. data loggers, soil vapour monitoring equipment, combustible gas meters, etc.).
  • Completion of field documentation such as job safety analysis (JSA) forms, project field reports, field notes, monitoring and chain-of-custody forms.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize and manage time efficiently to complete tasks.
  • Possess a high degree of initiative and the ability to work in a diverse team environment.
  • Work with project managers, using interpersonal and organizational skills to ensure projects are completed on time and budget.
  • Able to self-govern and work independently.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • A commitment to Health and Safety excellence.
  • Willingness to work independently in a field setting for extend periods of time, with some work taking place in remote areas. Some weekend work may be required.
Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of related environmental experience
  • Diploma in Environmental Technology or Degree in Engineering, Geoscience, Environmental Sciences preferred.
  • Must have valid Driver’s License as travel to site is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge/experience in environmental sampling
  • Ability to apply standard engineering/scientific subject matter to problem solving
  • Knowledge/experience in the areas of data science and data management
  • Experience overseeing subcontractors in an industrial or construction setting
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions (i.e. hot, cold, rain and snow).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in a range of desktop applications, with an emphasis on a strong skill set in Microsoft Excel
