Position Overview:
The Town of Bancroft is hiring an Environmental Program Coordinator -
Summer Student position who reports to the Chief Building Official or their designate for assisting with on-site septic inspections which may include conducting dye tests, visual inspection and other methods of determining environmental safety. Other duties will include administrative functions such as inspection reports, data entry, and filing of reports/letters.
This is a contract position at 35 hours per week, commencing May 6th, 2024 (flexible) and ending September 1st, 2024 (flexible). The rate of pay for this position is $17.50/hour. Our preferred candidate will be enthusiastic and demonstrate core competencies including but not limited to: communication, interpersonal skills, technical skills and analytical skills.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct on-site re-inspections of existing sewage disposal systems.
- Answering telephone, counter, email and field inquiries, provide customer service by providing technical information and assistance.
- Complete reports for sewage system re-inspection, file property files, review complaints and concerns toward sewage system re-inspection program from the public, maintain records of activities, complete progress reports for the Chief
- Building Official or designate.
- Carrying out special projects and other duties as assigned by Chief Building Official or designate while working in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety
- Act, and demonstrate a commitment to performing safe work practices.
- Provide assistance and support to technical staff with front counter operations, building inspections and plan review duties.
- Assist the general public and property owners with technical information/ suggestions about maintaining private sewage disposal systems.
- Provide administrative assistance to technical and support staff with records management, data creation and records retention.
- Responsible for providing general information to the public and assisting with their concerns and complaints when appropriate;
- Will perform their duties and work in accordance with the Municipality’s Health and
- Safety Policy and Procedures as well as the Occupational Health and Safety Act, including all applicable regulations;
- Perform other related duties as directed by the Chief Building Official or designate.
Qualifications, Skills & Job Knowledge:
- Criminal Record Check required;
- Enrolled in a post-secondary education program such as Environmental Studies, or a related program would be considered an asset;
- Valid G license with a clean drivers abstract is an asset
- Working knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and septic systems is an asset;
- Good computer and records management skills;
- Excellent customer service and communication skills;
- Physically able to carry out inspections;
- Attention to detail and accuracy;
- First Aid/CPR is an asset
- General office skills;
- Working knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and
Regulations;
- Students who are attending a post-secondary institution in September 2024 preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Working conditions contain moderate risks which require planned safety precautions for limited periods of time;
- Considerable periods of sitting, standing, and driving possible;
- Moderate to heavy lifting, pushing, pulling at times;
- Normal hours of work are 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, as required.
- Student required to have green patch work boots;
- You will be working outdoors in diverse weather conditions (rain, heat, etc.) with physical activity involved, including traversing through fields, streams, and wooded areas, in accordance with the Employment Standards Act and Workplace Health and Safety regulations.
- All Summer Students will be given an opportunity to assist with Town events, meaning some limited weekend work may be available.
