Choice Environmental Consulting Group is seeking highly motivated and professional Vegetation Management Technicians and/or Environmental Technicians to join our team! This exciting opportunity is ideal for a current student, or recent graduate, with the desire for experience in the environmental industry and opportunity of future employment. This role will develop your technical skills relating to site closure and reclamation in the energy sector of Western Canada. There is opportunity to extend the contract and move into another role at the end of the term. Upward movement within the company is the goal of this position!

Remote Position, Base Location: Lacombe, AB
This position is based out of Lacombe, AB however, there is no expectation for the applicants to move/live there as this is primarily a field based position. The applicants are preferred to live within or between Edmonton and Calgary.
Job Description
This is a contract position expected to last from May to September. There is opportunity to extend the contract. Duties include:
- Performing vegetation management activities on active, inactive, and reclaimed sites (wellsites, pipelines, facilities, and solar/wind farms).
- Vegetation identification, note taking, and record keeping.
- Mixing and applying herbicides at appropriate rates and areas.
- Utilizing UTV wand, backpack sprayers, and mechanical methods to target weeds on inactive sites and operating facilities.
- Completing and participating in tailgate and monthly safety meetings.
- Daily updates, report creation, cost tracking, and timesheet entry.
- Completing daily equipment and vehicle inspections and reporting or repairing deficiencies.
- Acting professional and respectful on behalf of Choice and communicating with landowners and operations, as needed.
Qualifications
- Preference given to those with or working towards a Diploma or University Degree related to environmental science or agriculture.
- Preference given to Authorized Assistant Applicator Certificate holders.
- Minimum 18 years of age, valid Drivers License, clear criminal record, clean drivers abstract, and own means of transportation.
- Strong willingness to learn, ability to ask questions, safety conscious, clear communicator, native and weedy species identification skillsets.
- Positive and optimistic attitude and able to work in a team atmosphere.
- Ability or willingness to learn how to drive a pick-up truck, haul a utility trailer, and operate a UTV/ATV/ARGO.
- Basic level of mechanics and problem solving.
- Detailed note taking, cleanliness, and organization is a must.
- Good physical health and ability to work outdoors in varying conditions.
Working Conditions
- The position is field based; travel and staying in accommodations throughout AB & SK for prolonged periods of time is expected.
- Typical working hours are 12 hours per day including weekends.
- This is a safety conscious position. Therefore, this position is subject to pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.
