Casual – Boundary Solid Waste Management Facilities, Multiple sites

The RDKB is seeking applications to fill a new casual Equipment Operator position for its Boundary Solid Waste Management Facilities (see work site locations below). This is a casual position and may work between 0 and 40 hours per week to cover staff absences including vacation leave, sick leave and other leaves as required. Shifts can occur any day of the week.

Work site Locations:
Grand Forks Landfill, West Boundary Landfill (Greenwood), Christina Lake Transfer Station, Rock Creek Transfer Station and the Beaverdell Transfer Station.

Reporting to the Solid Waste Operations Supervisor– Equipment and Maintenance, Equipment Operators are responsible for the operation and daily servicing of heavy equipment involved in the operations of the Solid Waste, recycling, and composting portion of the environmental services department.

To be considered for this position, candidates must possess:

• Minimum 19 years of age
• Possess a valid Class 1 BC Driver’s License with air endorsement.
• Minimum of five years Class 1 driving and wheel loader experience.
• Successfully completed the BCQLO course
• Equipment operation experience consisting of but not exclusive of: Wheel Loader, Excavator, Waste/Landfill Compactor, Hook-lift Truck, and Horizontal Wood Grinder.
• Ability and knowledge to maintain the equipment that is used in these operations.
• Basic mechanical understanding and ability to perform basic mechanical maintenance.
• Basic welding/fabricating skills and proficient use of hand, power, and pneumatic tools.
• Ability to understand and follow the site fill plan.
• Ability to work well with others and unsupervised.
• Ability to positively communicate with coworkers and the public users of the site.

Hours of work: 0-40 hours per week, Monday through Sunday (up to 10 hours per day)

Compensation: $33.35/Hour (2024 rates) plus 10% in lieu of benefits
