At SMS Equipment, our Operations Manager, Chetwynd & Tumbler Ridgeis responsible for leading and managing the Chetwynd and Tumbler Ridge Area operations under the direction of the General Manager, Central Interior BC. The Operations Managerwill manage, develop and direct daily business operations in order to achieve the company’s mission ensuring the safe and efficient functions of maintenance, repair and rebuild, and manufacturing of equipment and components. This position is based in Chetwynd & Tumbler Ridge, BC.
This shift rotation is 5x2.
The salary range for this position is $120,000 - $130,000.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Primarily responsible for leading and managing the day-to-day activities of the Chetwynd and Tumbler Ridge operations aligning with the objectives and directives of the General Manager, Central Interior BC and SMS Senior Leadership Team.
- Ensure compliance with safety rules and regulations to minimize industrial injuries and meet regulatory requirements.
- Establish, communicate and enforce safety standards.
- Plan, organize and direct all Branch operational activities.
- Lead programs to build Branch capabilities.
- Establish a high level of performance with respect to cost management.
- Establish a high level of customer satisfaction through the effective communication of performance standards required to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of product and related services.
- Coordinate with the BC Regional Sales Manager on sales related activities.
- Drive future production and maximize the Branch’s performance as it relates to human resources, safety, environmental compliance, best practices, cost reduction, workflow, profitability, and productivity.
- Review Branch operating results, comparing with established objectives, and take the appropriate measure to enhance outcome and performance.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with all contractual customers, contractors, and supplier agreements.
- Develop strategies in all functional areas to attain and sustain profitability.
- Ensure provision of service, both technical and non-technical to customers, on the basis of agreed programs and in compliance with Company policies and goals, ensuring minimization of costs and maximization of Company image.
- Promote a positive labour /employee relations climate and teamwork at all levels of the Branch organization.
- Conduct and participate in activities that contribute to an effective working relationship with both union and non-union employees.
- Interpret and implement the collective bargaining unit contract as required.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 10 years experience in the heavy equipment industry with a strong operations orientation. Other requirements include:
- Minimum of 5 years experience in a leadership role.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Ability to set objectives which are realistic but aggressive.
- Demonstrate strength and competence in impacting and influencing for resources and outcomes (i.e. budgets, people, and technology) and finding “win-win” solutions.
- Ability to effectively utilize the skills of subordinates to accomplish work objectives.
- Ability to successfully steward revenues and/ or expenses in accordance with budgets; estimates future possibilities, manages revenue/ expense controls, and provides informed analyses.
- Identify and evaluate unique opportunities for improving the Branch operations as well as generating new ideas, approaches or techniques.
- Highly motivated and able to influence and motivate others, maintain motivation even in the face of inevitable delays, setbacks, policy shifts and disappointment.
- Experience in assessing risks and make intelligent decisions under pressure.
