CONTRIBUTING TO THE CMPA

The Equity, diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) are vital to healthcare. Members and patients experience racism and inequities which can significantly affect physicians, threaten patient safety, and create medico-legal risk. The EDI Office is committed to identifying systemic barriers, equity gaps and institutional processes and practices and to addressing these through the EDI Strategy implementation and EDI assessment and measurement.

The EDI Office supports the implementation of CMPA’s EDI strategy as a critical element of the Association’s new strategic plan. The EDI Office fosters and supports an environment of equity and Inclusion across teams at the CMPA, provides strategic-level guidance and advice, and helps to increase capacity for EDI initiatives and programs. The EDI Office works cross-departmentally to support organizational understanding, action and engagement for EDI and antiracism, and it works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders and partners for the organization to realize its EDI goals. The EDI Office aims to nurture a workplace culture that embodies a strong sense of inclusion and belonging, and build processes, programs, and practices through an equity lens, and supports the work of the whole organization including its employees, the Council, and the CMPA members.


POSITION OVERVIEW

The Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Education & Learning Specialist reports to the Strategic Lead, EDI, and works in collaboration with the Organizational Learning & Collaboration (OLC) team. The responsibilities of the role include the design, development, and delivery of the EDI Learning Program for CMPA employees, Council, and members. The incumbent applies functional and technical knowledge to ensure key products provide an excellent learner experience. This includes the design and development of learning resources, events, and activities. The Specialist will also be involved in research and reporting on EDI topics relevant to CMPA learning, practices, and trends.


This role requires extensive experience in the design, development, and delivery of an EDI and anti-racism curriculum, with demonstrated knowledge of anti-racism, anti-oppression, intersectionality, trauma-informed approaches, and intercultural competencies. Experience facilitating EDI learning and education sessions and group discussions is a critical skill set.

The Specialist works within a highly collaborative and dynamic environment. This role requires strong relationship building and interpersonal communication skills. This individual follows promising practices and trends in workplace pedagogy and adult learning and is driven by a passion for developing learning experiences with a learner-centred approach.


POSITION ACTIVITIES

  • Initiates and leads the development of workshops, presentations and learning resources on topics such as EDI, decolonization, intersectionality, unconscious bias, anti-racism, and human rights for CMPA employees and Council.
  • Develops resource materials to ensure appropriate employee development and participation in EDI education and awareness-raising initiatives.
  • Collaborates primarily with internal stakeholders, specifically subject matter experts, to design and develop EDI learning and resources.
  • Attends EDI-related committees, supporting the meetings, preparing presentations, communicating with members.
  • Stays current with emerging and ongoing EDI issues, themes, resources, and legislation or regulatory changes.
  • Works in collaboration with the Learning, Safe Medical Care Research, Physician Support and Wellbeing teams, and other teams as identified in consultation with and under the guidance of the Strategic Lead EDI.
  • Embeds data collection and feedback throughout course material to enhance learner experience.
  • Applies proven theories, practices, and developing trends to optimize learning.
  • Thinks strategically and innovatively, leading and motivating others on EDI-related issues.
  • Ensures that EDI learning products are developed and maintained in accordance with CMPA guidelines and legal requirements.
  • Contributes to the overall success of the corporate EDI education to continuously improve CMPA learning.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Post-secondary degree in Education, social sciences, humanities, organizational management, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Postgraduate degree in equity, diversity, anti-racism, human rights, or disability studies.
  • A minimum of 4-6 years of related work experience in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • EDI certification is an asset.
  • Experience developing and delivering learning programs to adult learners for EDI, anti-racism learning and organization development initiatives both in person and online.
  • A deep understanding and relevant experience in EDI and anti-racism with the ability to take pedagogical and theoretical ideas into relevant and practical application.
  • Experience in conducting research and understanding of promising practices for EDI in research.
  • Professional practitioner with knowledge and expertise in the delivery and development of culture change initiatives, including impactful EDI events and activities within the organisation at various levels.
  • Experience in project management is an asset.
  • Bilingualism is an asset.


SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of and deep commitment to EDI, justice, anti-racism, and reconciliation.
  • Knowledge and lived experiences of inequities, and other forms of discrimination as a member of an equity deserving group.
  • Proficient group facilitation skills, ability to deliver presentations and engage adult learners in the workplace both in person and online.
  • Proficient research, writing, and critical thinking skills. Ability to work effectively within a dotted line reporting structure.
  • Ability to work in an agile environment, establishing goals, building consensus, and delivering against the established goals.
  • Experience in developing and managing a detailed project schedule and workplan or learning delivery plan.
  • Highly relational, both in person and online, to effectively build trust and work across departments and groups.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal and excellent active listening skills. Ability to articulate messages to a variety of audiences.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite, databases, and other software, including Learning Management Systems (LMS).
  • Proficient in digital learning platforms, specifically MS Teams and Zoom.
  • Interest and ability to stay current in the EDI field through networking and professional development opportunities.
  • Evaluation skills are an asset.

POSTING DETAILS

  • Job type: This is a regular full-time opportunity.
  • Salary range: $81,600 to $109,100 annually - classified as a level 8.
  • Location: Fully Remote Job. You can work from a home-based office anywhere in the provinces of Ontario and Québec on a full-time basis, with occasional on-site presence at the CMPA office (on an as-required basis for departmental or all-staff activities). If you prefer to work in an office setting as your primary workspace, you can choose to work out of the CMPA’s office located in Ottawa, Ontario.
