Job description

The Facility Support Worker is responsible for the supervision of residents while maintaining the security and safety of Lavers House, a Community Residential Facility (CRF). The facility supervisor is responsible for directly supervising resident actions and movements, thus assuring that all program rules and regulations are followed. In addition, the Facility Supervisor is to ensure that all breaches or suspected breaches of a resident’s Conditional Release (Parole) are reported immediately to the designated authority (Professional staff).

The Facility Support Worker informally counsels and supports residents with problem solving and conflict resolution, and is responsible for maintaining accountability and a positive atmosphere that promotes client motivation and change.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • The ability to understand the dynamics of offender behavior and assess their needs and risks;
  • The skills to counsel program clients, form effective relationships and gain trust;
  • Ability to work with clients who have mental health, addictions and substance use and engage strategies to provide meaningful support;
  • Ability to manage conflictive relationships;
  • Ability to effectively analyze situations quickly and apply sound judgement;
  • Ability to separate personal issues from that of professional duties;
  • Ability to accept direction, coaching and support from the Director or Designate;
  • Skills in communicating effectively, both orally and in writing;
  • The ability to demonstrate cultural competence and respect for diversity;

Minimum Requirements

  • Community College Diploma with specialization in the field of criminal justice or equivalent.
  • Valid First Aid - CPR Certification.
  • Non–Violent Crisis Intervention.
  • Must have effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to relate to people from diverse backgrounds with multiple problems.
  • Leadership skills and the capability of working as part of a cohesive team and a willingness to assist all team members with all aspects of the position.
  • Ability to act as a positive role model for program clients.
  • Must possess suitable typing skills, basic computer literacy.
  • Must be calm in busy and sometimes stressful situations.
  • Must be well organized.
  • Must have the ability to understand and be sensitive to cultural differences.

Reliability Status (Background Check)

All hired employees must hold a valid RELIABILITY STATUS granted or approved by either the Department Security Division (DSD) of CSC or the Canadian Industrial Security Directorate (CISD) of Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC).

Job Type: Casual

Salary: $18.00-$20.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 10 per week
