COMPENSATION: $28.32 - $32.51 per hour (Grid 12 as per collective agreement)
HOURS of WORK: 37.5 hours per week (32 hrs. with SSV + 5.5 hrs. with P.A.I.D.)
Monday-Friday, Day-time schedule - Occasional evening and weekend work required.

ABOUT THE JOB:
The Supervised and Supportive Visitation (SSV) Family Support Worker ensures the safety of children and youth visiting their parents and/or family members while providing coaching and educational advice to appropriately parent and maintain healthy relationships. Provides support in a variety of settings within the community. This is an outreach position that includes the transportation of clients.
- Ensures the safety of children visiting their parents and/or family members. Assists them in gaining an understanding of why their visits are supervised.
- Identifies individual and family strengths, needs, and patterns of interaction.
- Co-creates realistic goals and intervention strategies with the individual, family, MCFD, and other relevant stakeholders. Collaborates with all parties to help reach desired outcomes. Participates in ICMs as needed.
- Educates and coaches parents in attachment, parenting, child development, communication, problem-solving, life skills, and how to communicate feelings with their children.
- Coaches parents and children through the grief and loss of relationship they experience during separation.
- Observes and documents parental attendance and appropriateness and makes notations as required.
- Reports any serious incident within 24 hours of occurrence to MCFD in writing with a follow-up phone call.
- Supports Parenting Attachment and Individual Development (P.A.I.D) Program with general operational duties such as shopping, childminding, etc.
- Degree (preferred) or diploma in human/social services or related field
- 2 years of experience in the areas of parenting, grief and loss, attachment, and child development
- Or a combination of education, training, and experience
- Build healthy, trusting relationships with all involved parties, including the children, parents, family members, colleagues, supervisors, community professionals, and care teams
- Recognize the signs of substance use disorders and intoxication and apply interventions to maintain the safety of all participants as necessary.
- Manage conflict effectively while maintaining the integrity of the relationships
- Provide clear, accurate, and timely written documentation and verbal communication
- Advocate for the rights of individuals and families
- Problem-solve collaboratively using creative and critical thinking skills
- Respond appropriately to challenging behaviours, crisis situations, and aggression.
- Apply attachment and child development theories and other relevant methods, principles, and best practices in supporting families and individuals who are experiencing loss and grief
- Provide life skills support, interventions, and guidance
- Develop and implement client-focused goals, plans, and schedules
- Work effectively independently and as a strong contributing member of a team
- Implement strong critical and analytical thinking in the work applying appropriate policies and procedures
- Seek direction, ask questions, and invest in continuous professional development
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s license and safe driving record
- Own vehicle with Business Use and third-party liability insurance of $5 million (reimbursement is provided).
- Following training is required and provided to the successful candidate free of charge. Existing certification is an asset: CPR-C, Mandt (2 days), SafeTALK, Safe Food Handling, MCFD Privacy, Car Seat Safety and Installation, Anti-Bullying, and Harassment.
