Job description

FAMILY SUPPORT WORKER 35 hrs/wk.

Starting as soon as possible. Flexible hours. Good benefits.

NIC Resource Programs seeks a skilled individual to work in our Family Support Program (FSP) based in Duncan. The Family Support program is a short term, 4-6 week goal-focused program where the successful applicant will be working with parents and their children in a caring, supportive, professional manner, to assist them through various challenges or barriers they are experiencing. Areas of focus when working with families include nurturing, safety, routine, structure, limits, consequences, and community connection. The successful applicant will be expected to provide skills training, coaching, advocacy, advice, and support to families, and will often be required to work in an interdisciplinary setting. The Duncan Family Support Worker will be required to travel to Nanaimo for a weekly team meeting.

NIC Resource Program's philosophy has four pillars. Relationship-based, needs-focused, family-driven, and open and honest communication.

This is an exciting, fulfilling, and challenging position.

Successful applicants should have:

· A valid driver’s license and use of own vehicle is necessary

· A successful criminal record check

· A Child & Youth Care Degree or equivalent education and experience

· Good organizational skills, good listening, writing and speaking skills

Given the nature of the work, some evenings and weekends will be required. Substantial training and support will be provided throughout. Emphasis is on relationship building, and honest and respectful communication with the families you work with, and in all aspects of your work. You must be willing to work independently and be part of a Team.
