The Field Operations Manager is tasked with all aspects of farming operations with respect to fruit and vegetable production. This position is located in Cache Creek, British Columbia. Temporary foreign workers will be the primary source of labor, so excellent leadership abilities will be paramount.
Responsibilities
Field Operations:
• Conduct pre-plant fertility assessments to confirm optimal soil conditions.
• Oversee pre-plant herbicide/fungicide applications and maintain accurate records for food safety compliance.
• Coordinate pre-plant tillage activities.
• Ensure proper execution of transplanting and direct seeding activities according to the planting plan.
• Implement weed management strategies, utilizing herbicides, mechanical methods, and manual labor.
• Execute disease management plans, including timely fungicide applications.
• Supervise harvest operations, ensuring daily deadlines are met and products meet specified quality standards.
Shipping:
• Confirm trucking logistics and appointments in collaboration with the logistics team.
• Verify that all purchase orders (POs) are filled in coordination with the Marketing and Logistics teams.
• Confirm case counts on trucks match the PO and conduct quality assurance checks to ensure products meet specifications.
Agronomy:
• Conduct daily scouting activities in every field to identify diseases and weeds.
• Provide daily reports to the Marketing team with harvest estimates.
• Manage all aspects of the irrigation plan, including timing and fertigation.
• Oversee repairs and maintenance of irrigation equipment.
Human Resources:
• Daily management of the crew, including job allocation and task assignment.
• Manage time for all crew members effectively.
• Develop and communicate harvest schedules based on POs, weather conditions, crop maturity, and alternate crop maturities.
Food Safety:
• Ensure accurate record-keeping of all relevant applications.
• Provide the Food Safety Manager with all necessary records for filing and organization.
Inventory:
• Manage and report crop inventory in storage.
• Manage and report packaging inventory.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, agronomy, or a related field.
• Proven experience in Field Operations and management.
• Strong knowledge of crop management, irrigation, and food safety practices.
• Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
• Effective communication and reporting abilities.
• Familiarity with agricultural technology and equipment.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
