Here's the opportunity:

•Safety management: Working closely with the Manager, Health, Safety & Wellness, you
will be a key contributor to the continuing evolution of the City of Saint John's corporate
safety management system. You are responsible for ensuring the City's Health, Safety,
and Environment (HSE) standards are met and recorded in the safety management
systems.

•Safety culture: You will also play a key role in the development of a transformational
safety culture within our organization. For example, you will have a strong presence in
the field to maintain a safety culture focused on prevention through education and
coaching staff on safe work behaviours.

•Guiding others on safety responsibilities: You will provide support, advice and guidance to
managers/supervisors, employees, and contractors, with respect to their duties and
responsibilities under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.

•Health and wellness: You will support and implement corporate program services in the
areas of employee health and wellness.

•ISO: You will promote and contribute to the implementation of the HSE Management
System that aligns with ISO 45001:2018.

•A variety of other duties such as: leading incident, and complaint investigations for
significant events, to ensure the City is meeting its legal and legislative requirements: and
supporting and implementing Health and Wellness program services.

Here's what we need from you:

•A university degree or the equivalent of four years' post-secondary education in a related
discipline - but note that a combination of education, certification, and experience may be
considered.

•A valid Class 5 driver's license, including a clean driver's abstract, and the ability to visit
sites in the Saint John area. This is essential to fulfill the role.

•Thorough knowledge of New Brunswick Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation
and industry best practices.

•Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to effectively engage and
build relationships with people at all levels.

•Assets include:

oA certificate or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent.

oDesignations such as: Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC), Canadian
Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Gold Seal Certification (GSC), National
Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) or Construction Safety Coordinator (CSC).

oA minimum of three years' progressive experience in a safety role.

oWorking knowledge of ISO 45001.
