Project Overview
Bechtel Infrastructure, along with key sub-vendors Bantrel and Comtech, have been appointed as the Delivery Partner (DP) within an Integrated Project Team (IPT) comprising the customer, Metrolinx, and its Technical Advisor (TA) for the Ontario Line Subway (OLS) Project. The OLS Project scope includes the design build, operation, and maintenance of all infrastructure and rail systems associated with 15 stations and over 15km of new alignment, being delivered through major Public Private Partnership (P3) contracts and multiple Early and Advanced Works (EAW) contracts. The OLS Project is planned to open for revenue service in 2031. The DP team forms a key part of the overall leadership of the OLS Project.
The Joint Corridor section of the Ontario Line Subway project includes worksites at Don Yard (470 Lake Shore Blvd) and within the Kingston Subdivision from Eastern Avenue to Gerrard Street (388 Carlaw Avenue). This role is site based and the successful candidate will be expected to work fulltime at the 388 Carlaw Avenue project office.
Position Summary
The Field Specialist for the Joint Corridor performs construction engineering assignments of varied nature requiring a full working knowledge of construction engineering practices. The Field Specialist will be responsible for monitoring Contractor’s performance, ensuring compliance with the project specifications, verifying installed quantities, and producing detailed daily shift reports for the works performed. The Field Specialist takes direction from the appropriate Lead Field Specialist and issues contemporaneous shift reports at the conclusion of each shift.
Responsibilities
-Monitor the activities of contractors to ensure compliance with ES&H, quality requirements & project technical requirements. Undertake site inspection duties.
-Coordinates and resolves engineering or construction problems in collaboration with the relevant stakeholders.
-Reviews contractor’s documentation including work plans, method statements, shop drawings and inspection and testing plans (ITPs).
-Attends necessary inspections of the works on behalf of Metrolinx; issues and tracks non-conformance reports (NCRs) as applicable.
-Interprets design engineering drawings.
-Verifies contractor’s commodities on quantity tracking systems or other computer database programs as required.
-Reviews field change notices/requests, extra work orders and back charge notices.
-Implements project controls tools on the construction site.
-Prepares and maintains daily reports.
-Assists in the verification of contractor’s applications for payment.
-Reviews updated contractor schedules, as assigned.
 
Qualifications and Skills
Basic Qualifications
-Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or another relevant technical discipline from an accredited university as well as a minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience, or 12 years relevant experience in the absence of a degree.
-Work experience as a field engineer, assistant superintendent or assistant project manager leading to an understanding of the technical knowledge described above.
-Experience working in bridge construction, utility relocations, track, and heavy civil works considered advantageous.
-Knowledge of construction means and methods, engineering and technical requirements, contracts administration and/or cost and scheduling relating to the construction of bridges and structures on major projects in Ontario or Canada
 
Additional Qualifications
-Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Work, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)
-Familiarity with current industry quality standards.
-Experience on previous Metrolinx projects and/or experience working within active rail corridors considered advantageous.
