The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager, Finance the Financial Analyst is responsible for supporting the period end close process, as well as daily accounting and reconciliations, analytics on variances, accruals, and preparation of audit supporting schedules. This role has daily responsibilities and requires an individual that thrives in a fast paced and dynamic department.
Financial Statement Close Process
- Responsible for booking daily journal entries for multiple entities
- Preparing month-end accrual entries related to on-balance sheet loan portfolios,
- Responsible for conducting reconciliation of on-balance sheet loan portfolios and providing analytical commentary and investigation on rates and volumes,
- Prepare month-end journal entries related to other assets and liabilities including amortization of fees and revenues.
- Perform reasonability analysis on trending journal entries to ensure completeness and accuracy.
- Investigate various transactions as a part of variance analysis and reconciliations, coordinating with other internal and external groups, draw conclusions and propose adjusting entries if required,
- Leverage available data through the enhancement and development of analytical reports to support monthly reporting,
- Wire requests to Treasury department to support funding and other transfer requirement,
- Contribute to an accurate and timely month end close free of material misstatements,
- Provide back-up to other Finance team members for reconciliation and journal entry postings,
- Increase operational efficiency by reviewing and recommending improvement to existing procedures and processes, and leveraging technology,
- Provide general day-to-day accounting/reconciliation support and assist with any other ad-hoc tasks or special projects, as may be required from time to time.
- Reconcile and maintain monthly loan subledger in conjunction with Manager and Controller
- Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS
- Adhoc reporting for senior management
- In conjunction with the Manager, Finance assist in maintaining a strong control environment and good governance practices
- Interact with all functional areas of the business for the purpose of the continuous advancement of the Company’s information capabilities, implementation of processes and information delivery to improve operational efficiencies, strengthening of internal controls, as well as financial and non-financial analytics as required.
- Undergraduate Degree in Business Administration, Finance or Accounting
- At least 3 years of experience in a finance role
- A CPA designation or working towards a CPA designation is an asset.
- Previous experience working in financial services is considered an asset.
