Your opportunity:
The Office of the Registrar at U of T Mississauga delivers registrarial services to support U of T Mississauga's academic goals. Our core mission is effective strategic enrolment management: student recruitment, retention, success and graduation. Reporting to the Registrar & Assistant Dean, Enrolment Management, the Financial Assistant is responsible for providing financial and administrative services in the Office of the Registrar. The Financial Assistant processes all financial transactions, monitors and reconciles financial accounts, resolves discrepancies and generates financial reports. The Financial Assistant keeps the Registrar & Assistant Dean, Enrolment Management informed on relevant financial issues and provides support for the forecast submission process, assisting with monthly monitoring, budget planning and forecasts.
The Financial Assistant works with the Executive Assistant and provides administrative support and assistance for staffing and operational services in the Office of the Registrar. Confidentiality is essential and the Financial Assistant is responsible staying current on all appropriate requirements, guidelines and procedures and for providing information, guidance and advice to the Registrar & Assistant Dean, Enrolment Management, the Associate Registrars, and the staff in the Office of the Registrar.
Your responsibilities will include:

-Preparing and/or processing journal entries
-Generating standard financial reports
-Processing expense reimbursements
-Identifying and resolving individual financial discrepancies
-Applying the university Guide to Financial Management and other applicable policies, agency and regulatory requirements
-Reconciling accounts
-Preparing and recording deposits on a regular basis
-Advising staff on accounting practices and University financial policies and procedures
 
Essential Qualifications:

-Advanced College Diploma (3 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience in commerce or related field with a specialization in accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience.
-A minimum of three (3) years of experience including recording financial transactions (accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries) using a computerized information system.
-Experience dealing with a large volume of transactions, customer service, and responding to inquiries in a professional manner.
-Demonstrated high level of attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy under pressure of deadlines.
-Good understanding of the concepts involved in forecasting and variance analysis.
-Demonstrated knowledge of financial accounting, management accounting, accounting software applications, and finance & business communications.
-Ability to quickly master system skills, including ability to quickly gain a good understanding of systems.
-Substantial working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel is essential, including the ability to consolidate and link multiple spreadsheets and to use advanced functions and formulas.
-Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and manage deadlines.
-Highly professional approach, use of tact, superior organizational skills, ability to work with minimal error under pressure, good judgment, initiative, flexibility, ability to deal in an effective and cooperative manner with a variety of people.
-Demonstrated ability to effectively work independently and also collaboratively in a team environment.
-Superior data and financial processing skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
-Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
-Excellent analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills
-Excellent customer service orientation with the ability to work effectively with diverse individuals
-Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion with confidential information
