What You’ll Do
As the Forklift Operator, you will have the opportunity to help our Metrie business meet production targets through the reduction of down time, ensuring JIT (just in time) delivery, bringing proper materials and quantities consistently, and ensuring safety through a clean and organized work area in our Toronto, ON facility.
Shifts Available: Friday to Sunday Day Shift (6:00 AM - 6:00 PM)
Responsibilities
- Engaged in supporting MPS initiatives (i.e., Safety, SMED, Continuous Improvement, 6S, etc.)
- Lead by example to ensure Metrie’s core value is met; P.R.I.C.E (Passion, Respect, Integrity, Collaboration, Excellence)
- Ensure all forklift related policies and departmental procedures are being followed
- Understanding of production scheduling system
- Ensure that daily checks sheets on your forklift are being filled out while reporting any non-compliances
- Ensure the production line infeed chains remain stocked with raw board (as per production schedule)
- Ensure the production lines have their finished lifts removed in accordance to not slowing the line down
- Ensure daily production continuously meets the requirements of IFOTIS (In full, On Time, In Spec)
- Ensure the next work orders board is dug out, designated, and staged accordingly
- Ensure the raw board inventory area is continuously kept in a neat and orderly fashion in accordance to 6S
- Final quality checks on all finished lift packaging coming off the production lines
- Assist with unloading of raw board and supplies from shipping containers and delivery trucks
- Raw line / Hinge & Strike machine replenishment
- Ensure full scrap carts are continuously brought down to the grinder
- Ensure all plant tipper bins are left empty upon shifts end
- Ensure the production lines are continuously stocked with paint as per production demands
- Ensure paint tote storage area is maintained in accordance to 6S
- Other responsibilities as assigned by supervision / management
- Observe and respect all pedestrian traffic at all times within the facility
- Understand and apply all safety policies & regulations (5 Steps to a Safe Day)
- Trained and competent in Job Hazards (JH) as per the Job Hazard Assessment (JHA)
- Follow all lockout procedures mandatory within the department
- Demonstrate leadership in accident prevention through LPA reporting
- Conducting S.S.A’s as per scheduled requirements
- Full knowledge of machine operating procedures as per SOP’s and hazard assessments
- Frequent walking, lifting, pushing/pulling
Qualifications
- Education: Secondary / Post-Secondary School
- Related Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years related experience in manufacturing forklift role - Counterbalance preferred.
- Specific Skills/Trade or Knowledge:
- Valid Ontario Certified Forklift License
- Knowledge of production best practices/production schedules
- Ability to be flexible in regards to shift coverage when called upon
- Strong organizational and communicative skills
- Hand to eye coordination and dexterity
