Job description

As a Full Stack Developer at Our Kids Media, you'll be a part of the Product team and play a pivotal role in developing and maintaining four digital platforms and their multiple products.

  • Collaborate with the Product Manager and cross-functional team through all phases of the development lifecycle on existing and new online products to ensure seamless integration with existing technology/architecture.
  • Develop, test, and maintain solutions/activities in compliance with product specifications to effectively solve a problem, using responsive layouts while balancing UX/UI, performance, and SEO considerations.
  • Maintain a full understanding of and transparent communication about each decision and trade-off you make in an organized and structured way, ​​taking accountability for the components/features you develop.
  • Analyze problems systematically to determine the root cause, and balance trade-offs without compromising long-term code stability, maintainability, and scalability.
  • Develop code in a clean and well-structured format, while adhering to the full software development life cycle (SDLC) including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Identify and troubleshoot bugs using debugging tools, browser developer tools, and other resources.
  • Identify and suggest enhancements to supported systems/processes that serve as valuable improvements to increase efficiency, streamline workflows, and or better user experience.
  • Generate tailored web statistical reports. Clarify analysis objectives, gather reliable data, and address data quality issues effectively.
  • ABOUT YOU
  • Drive the conversion of technical requirements of a project into the architecture and design that will guide the final product, being responsible for bridging the gaps between complex business problems and solutions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science (or a related field) and/or equivalent practical experience with complex, multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Minimum 3-5 years developing end-user-facing B2B/B2C products and coding in one or more of the following: PHP, JavaScript, jQuery, SQL, HTML, CSS.
  • Ability to work in-person in Mississauga, ON, based on company policy.
  • Track record of consistently shipping impactful product features balancing speed with a quality user experience.
  • Robust understanding of diverse frameworks (including server-side, browser-side, and desktop frameworks) with practical, hands-on experience implementing and using APIs, seamlessly integrating and leveraging their functionalities to enhance system capabilities.
  • Solid understanding of development in a Linux environment with proficiency in Linux-based tools, commands, and workflows for effective software development.
  • Well-rounded knowledge of SDLC, Kanban, and the flexibility to adapt your experience to new and evolving environments.
  • Understanding of software quality assurance and performance testing processes.
  • Demonstrated ability with search engine optimization (SEO) strategies and performance evaluation—defining and analyzing metrics that provide insights into the success of websites.
  • Demonstrated ability to convey technical information, explanations, and recommendations to a diverse internal technical and non-technical audience.
  • Proficient understanding of version control and bug tracking tools, such as Git and JIRA.
  • System management of environments from dev-test to production
  • Background in production support during on and off-hours
  • Background in cloud technologies, such as IaaS, support/development
  • Excellent judgment and thoughtfulness about the dynamics of a product ecosystem.
  • Strong sense of accountability and can identify, assess, and escalate issues, to resolve competing priorities/deadlines.
  • Self-awareness of superpowers versus areas of improvement, and ability to dive into new challenges/requests with patience.
  • Strong analytical ability and clear communication skills.
  • Willingness to ask for help and collaborate with team members as partners.
  • Eager to continuously update your skills/proficiencies as new technologies emerge, and champion a productive work environment.
