Funeral Director

JOB TYPE: Full-time, Permanent

WAGES: Subject to class of personal FD license and sector experience of the licensee. Overtime pay as well as after hours removal bonuses.

HOURS: 37.5 hour per week in office. Additional hours as needed, per a rotating weekly schedule every 3rd week to be on-call duty for evenings/ nights/ weekends

EXPERIENCE: We are open to receiving applications from interns (subject to internship requirements), new FD1 or FD2 licensees, as well as experienced Jr. or Sr. Funeral Directors (FD1 or FD2). We will train on all cemetery and monument products and services.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Due to the physical duties required of a Funeral Director, candidates must be able to team lift heavy loads, as well as assist in carrying caskets and/or manipulating body stretchers up and down stairs, in and out of vehicles, lifting over objects, and across uneven terrain.

ABOUT US: Cataraqui Cemetery and Funeral Services, is located in Kingston Ontario and is operated by The Cataraqui Cemetery Company. We are an independent not for profit organization that has operated continuously since 1850. We hold operator licensing for FE1 funeral establishment, a cemetery, and a crematorium. Our staff are hands on with each client family to assist, consult and arrange our full and comprehensive range of supplies and services including cremation, funeral services, caskets, urns, cemetery plots, interment services; and monuments.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS : As a condition of employment, the incumbent must obtain and hold in good standing an Ontario Cemetery and Crematorium Sales Representative license. Licensing is coordinated through the employer and issued by the Bereavement Authority of Ontario (BAO). The employer will pay for the incumbent’s BAO annual licensing/training/education requirements.

• Must have and maintain an Ontario FD 1 or FD2 class license or be and FD1 or FD2 intern that is in good standing with the BAO;
• Must have and maintain a valid Ontario G2 driver’s license; with a clean driver abstract
• Must have and maintain a clean CPIC or vulnerable sector police background check;
• Have and maintain full and open scheduling availability to meet the needs of the bereavement sector;
• Excellent time management, organization, and multi-tasking skills;
• Excellent verbal, nonverbal, and written communication skills in English;
• Strong Ability to work independently and be self motivated to complete time sensitive tasks;
• Superior attention to detail, accuracy and thoroughness;
• Strong decision making, problem solving, and analytical skills;

• Consult, assist, arrange, and coordinate activities, supplies and services that are best suited to solve or address the client/family needs: including but not limited to: transfer of decedent, preparation of the decedent's remains, as well as coordinating and directing funeral, and cemetery activities;
• Consult, present, follow-up and make arrangements for at-need and/or pre-need client families for a wide range of funeral, cemetery, crematorium, and memorialization supplies and services;
• Respond, as needed, to client or family requests for information, supplies or services;
• Maintain facilities, equipment, and supplies as required.
