Garden Crew Member

The Glen Arbour Golf Course is a private golf course located in Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia, just west of Halifax and features a classic eighteen-hole championship course, a nine-hole par three as well as a practice facility. Glen Arbour is operated as a Limited Partnership whose philosophy is to create a course with excellent conditions in a family-friendly environment, with service standards that are best in class.

The Garden Crew Member supports the Landscape Gardener in ensuring Glen Arbour’s grounds are functionally and aesthetically sound. You are responsible for assisting with preparation and maintenance of landscape around the course, including planting, trimming and grooming all flower beds that exist throughout the property. In addition, this role provides opportunities to take on individual projects, work with the Turf Crew, and learn and share knowledge.

Some of the responsibilities will include:

• Prepares soil plant beds and establishes plantings by seed or transplants.
• Plants and maintains shrubs, trees, and gardens.
• Carrys out fertilization and soil maintenance duties.
• Weeds, trims and feeds shrubs and trees, including removing and cuttings.
• Maintains non-golf grounds around clubhouse and club grounds, including watering and pruning.
• Provides suggestions to the Landscape Gardener to assist in planning needed plants, materials and tools.
• Proactively provide preventative pest maintenance.
• Assists in loading, and unloading materials, equipment, and supplies.
• Assist with flower upkeep and maintenance.
• Keeps all work areas clean and organized.
• Assists Turf Maintenance with duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications, Skills and Education Requirements

• High school degree, or an equivalent combination of training and experience Previous experience working outdoors in physically demanding conditions (heat, precipitation)
• A demonstrated passion for working outdoors.
• Ability to work independently and within a team structure.
• Ability to meet and perform the physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position i.e.: kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting.
• Willingness to learn.
• Demonstrated interest in growing your skills in gardening and landscape.
