PURPOSE
The Plant General Foreman is responsible for meeting daily safety and production targets in the Process Plant by ensuring that the duties of all production foreman are carried out effectively and efficiently according to all established legislation, policies and operating procedures.
ACCOUNTABILITY
The incumbent is accountable to the plant superintendent and directly supervises the plant production foremen, with indirect responsibility for all production employees.
RESPONSIBILITIES & PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
- Ensure that safe and efficient procedures are followed and a high standard of work is maintained.
- Ensure that production goals are achieved without compromising quality or safety
- Coordinate efforts between operations crews, contractor’s and government agencies (if applicable) to ensure a high degree of plant availability.
- Identify and correct problems to ensure high plant utilization is maintained.
- Identify training needs and ensure that training requirements are met.
- Administers a plant operations budget.
- Ensure that personnel issues are addressed in a timely manner and in concert with applicable legislation and the collective agreement.
- Responsible for ensuring that cost effectiveness is achieved.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Minimum grade 12 or GED is required
- A Certificate/Diploma in Mineral Processing, is preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years in a Coal Processing environment
- Minimum 2 years supervisory experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of mineral processing.
- Knowledge of plant equipment, pumps conveyors, crushers etc.
- Knowledge of OH&S regulations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of the plant process, troubleshooting, maintenance, analyzing circuits and improvement methods
- Excellent supervisory and motivating skills.
- Knowledge of disciplinary procedures, performance appraisals, apprenticeship guidelines, scheduling and payroll guidelines and team building.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The incumbent needs to be able to:
handle loads over 20 kg. in weight
operate a vehicle requiring a Class 5 license
sit or stand for over 60 consecutive minutes
concentrate for over 60 consecutive minutes
work in environmental extremes for over 60 consecutive minutes
listen for quiet sounds
hear specific noises over background noises
perceive fine visual detail
frequently use peripheral vision
use fine motor skills
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The incumbent works at the CST Coal Mine Site in Grande Cache on a 5 day-on 2 day-off 8 hour dayshift rotation. A modified work schedule may be considered subject to operational circumstances. Overtime will be required due to the nature of the work. He/she is in a plant setting approximately 50% of the time and in an office setting 50% of the time and is exposed to chemicals or fumes and loud, continuous noise levels that require hearing protection. Exposure to moving equipment in and around the facility, i.e. conveyors, is a daily occurrence. As a condition of employment, the incumbent is required to comply with pre-employment drug and alcohol testing as per the Company Drug and Alcohol Policy. As required, personal protective equipment will include the use of an approved hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe boots, hearing protection, CSA approved respiratory protection, protective clothing and gloves.
