McLean-Peister Ltd. is seeking an experienced hands-on Golf Course Superintendent to join our team. This role takes responsibility for Golf Course maintenance at Peel Village Golf Course, a 9-hole facility known for its commitment to providing excellent Golf Course conditions. Located in the heart of Brampton, Peel Village Golf Course is constructed within a 67-acre floodplain surrounding Etobicoke Creek. The course offers golfers nine challenging holes in a natural setting, a mix of tree-lined dog legs, water hazards, sand traps, elevated tee boxes and greens. As the Superintendent, you will be a self-starting manager in charge of the department, and you will play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing the quality of the Golf Course and ensuring an exceptional experience for guests.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Supervising, leading and assisting in all maintenance programs and day-to-day turf operations.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive turf management plan, encompassing fertilization, irrigation, pest control, and aeration, to optimize course conditions.
- Supervise and lead a dedicated team of groundskeepers, providing guidance, support, and leadership to ensure the highest standard of course maintenance.
- Manage and maintain equipment, overseeing proper functionality, and scheduling regular maintenance to maximize efficiency and longevity in conjunction with the mechanic.
- Collaborate with the management team to develop and manage the annual budget for course maintenance operations, ensuring financial responsibility and accountability.
- Stay current on industry trends and best practices, applying this knowledge to improve course conditions and operational processes continually.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork and professional development among the groundskeeping staff.
- Mentoring and supervising the training of new and returning staff on job functions as well as the care and safety of all maintenance equipment
- Management of all playing areas: tees, greens, fairways, rough, hole locations, marker placement, sand traps, cart paths and wayfinding.
- Supervising turf irrigation, water usage and irrigation maintenance of the Golf Course including grass, trees and plants. Confidence and ability to troubleshoot irrigation system challenges.
- Supervising and participating in the application and usage of pesticides, fungicides and fertilizers as well as developing an annual plan for chemical and fertilizing use.
- Proper record keeping and logs for water usage, fertilization and chemical applications to assist in the annual filing of the IPM report.
- Scheduling, payroll administration and budgeting
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years experience in turf grass management (GCS or AGCS)
- Minimum educational credentials: “U of G Turf Managers Short Course Certificate” or equivalent
- Proven leadership, supervisory and personnel development skills
- OGSA Member in Good Standing
- IPM Accreditation
- Ontario Pesticide Applicators Licence
- Knowledge and training in WHMIS and other Workplace Safety requirements
- Proficiency with computer technology for irrigation control and inter-office communication
- CPR qualification and Chain Saw certification an asset
- Valid Drivers License
Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Salary: $60,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
