What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:
  • Plan and co-ordinate the operations and maintenance of the 18-hole Upper Canada (Championship) Golf Course, it's staff and resources; to co-ordinate and oversee the operation of the Upper Canada Golf Course pro shop and restaurant.
  • Co-ordinates all operations of the Upper Canada Golf Course including development of innovative service and special event programs
  • Determine methods to improve the product, service, efficiency, promotion, marketing and merchandising of the Golf Course and the food and beverage operations
  • Prepares staffing plans
  • Oversees and ensures fair practices in hiring, assigning work, and performance management
  • Ensures compliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation, government/agency requirements, accessibility legislation, etc.
  • Planning and controlling work methods and use of equipment/maintenance
  • Maintaining complete and accurate statistical data regarding all aspects of course maintenance
  • Managing and overseeing the spraying of pesticides for the control of insects, diseases and
    weeds
  • Direct and co-ordinates construction projects (greens, tees, sand traps, etc.)
  • Assists in organizing a variety of tournaments
  • Assumes responsibility for the entire operation when the manager is absent


How do I qualify?

Mandatory

  • Strong customer service skills
  • Collaboration skills
  • Extensive knowledge of project management
  • Integrated Pest Management (IPM) certification
  • Valid driver's licence
  • Very strong leadership skills
  • Creativity
  • Experience and extensive knowledge of project management

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Extensive knowledge in all phases of Golf Course and turf management
  • Extensive knowledge of specialized Golf Course mowing equipment such as reel mowers, aerators, sprayers, vertical mowers, top dressers, etc.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations that apply to the work, and knowledge of any potential or actual danger to health and safety in the workplace to ensure compliance when performing supervisory responsibilities.


COMMUNICATION AND COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Strong written skills to prepare reports
  • Very strong verbal communication skills to deal effectively with the public and staff
  • Ability to promote SLPC attractions
  • Demonstrated ability in the operation of a computer system and related software to maintain budget, maintenance records, statistics, proposals, etc.


JUDGMENT, ORGANIZATIONAL AND SUPERVISORY SKILLS:

  • Demonstrated supervisory experience with staff training, motivating staff, assigning work, and performance management
  • Strong judgement is required when assessing program needs and recommending new equipment, activities and procedures of WHMIS and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Judgement is required in assessing Golf Course needs and recommending priorities for use, funding, and staff.
  • Judgement is required in dealing with personnel problems and resolving same.
  • Judgement and organizational skills are required when forecasting staff and developing schedules


LEADERSHIP, PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND RESEARCH SKILLS:

  • Demonstrated supervisory experience in assigning work, motivating staff, and evaluating work performance of staff employed in the maintenance of a Golf Course.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings of irrigation and drainage systems, soil and topographic maps, and Golf Course design
