Description:
The University of Toronto Libraries system is the largest academic library in Canada and is consistently ranked in the top ten among academic research libraries in North America. The system consists of 40 libraries located on three university campuses: St. George, Mississauga, and Scarborough. This array of college libraries, special collections, and specialized libraries and information centres supports the teaching and research requirements of over 300 graduate programs, more than 70 professional programs, and about 700 undergraduate degree programs. In addition to more than 15 million volumes in 341 languages, the library system currently provides access to millions of electronic resources in various forms and over 31,000 linear metres of archival material. More than 150,000 new print volumes are acquired each year. The Libraries' data centre houses more than 500servers with a storage capacity of 1.5 petabytes
Your Opportunity:
Under general direction, the Human Resources/Payroll Officer is responsible for providing payroll services and support for University of Toronto Libraries (UTL). The position
works together with other members of the UTL HR team to perform HR functions and activities to support a full-service divisional Human Resources Office.
Key responsibilities include:
monthly and bi-weekly payroll functions; responding to and investigating general Human Resources, payroll and benefits inquiries; conducting benefits orientation sessions; providing in-depth HRIS and
uTIME/Kronos advice and support;
developing and delivering group and individual information and training sessions; responding to basic inquiries related to applicable collective agreements and
Human Resources policies and practices; producing various reports for administrative analysis; conducting research and compiling data in support of special projects; and
is responsible for records and data management. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for supporting the student casual recruitment process.
Minimum:
Education:

-Post-secondary education or acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification with CPA (Canadian Payroll Association) as PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) or working toward certification, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience:
-A minimum of 5 years of payroll experience using SAP/HRIS, or similar software, to process and administer payroll.
-Experience applying and interpreting Human Resources practices, collective agreements and legislation, with a specialization in payroll and/or benefits required.
-Experience with time and attendance software (e.g. Kronos) desirable.
-Experience recruiting, training, supervising, coaching, and mentoring staff.
-Experience in a unionized environment desirable.
Skills:

-Strong working knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook required.
